C63 vs. BMW 135i
Hey Guys, looking for a little help here. I'm in a discussion with someone who is telling me that for $6500 all in you can "easily" get a 135 bimmer up over 600BHP and that its mostly DIY. I found this very hard to believe since thats a double in HP to the stock car and said so to him. I know that you can increase the turbo boost and change exhaust, even do an ECU flash etc. but can you see huge results like this for such a low cost, and actually put that performance to the ground?
I've only driven M3's and a 645 as far as BMW is concerned so I can't comment on the 135's but surely this guy has to be misinformed? ( or am I way off?)
So if any of you have a 135 or a friend who does and has done mods can you verify?
If this is true then why would anyone buy an M3

I really cant comment on that since I know nothing about 135i's other then the fact that they use forced induction and its probably possible to get it up to 600bhp but not for $6500.
Its easy to extract power out of TT cars though.

I had a 335 before I bought my M3, and the 335i/135i have the same N54 twin-turbo engine. With a plug-n-play tune, and bolt-on's (exhaust, downpipes, cat-back piping, upgraded intercooler), 450HP is attainable and the cost could be anywhere around $2,000 - $4,000 (depending on hook-up). Upgrade the turbos, put a meth system in the trunk, add in a little race gas with race tune mapping, among a few other minor mod's to squeeze out more power, and over 500HP is possible. 600HP is pushing it IMO, but I have not been over to e90post.com in a while, so some tuners might be doing some crazy things by now. I would not say it is impossible, but for him to say it can be done "easily" and DIY, that would be doubtful...unless you are one hell of a mechanic + tuner with a dyno.
As for why would one go from 135/335 to the M3? Well the as others say here, "no replacement for displacement". Actually, the M3 has MANY upgraded parts, especially suspension, which was born on the track. Going from a 335, even with upgraded coilovers and suspension, to a M3 is like night and day...not even close to being the same car. The M3 just inspires confidence when driving and just "feels" solid. Only thing I do miss is the torque of the 335, but now that I picked up my C63, I am bringing that back .
Bottom line....start the engine of the C63 while he is standing next to it, and you should not have to say a damn thing.

reworked stock turbos, turbo back exhaust, race gas tune = 600+bhp
oil coolers are highly advisable but not necessary for the numbers. so easily acheivable for 6500, really even less if you do your own work.
when i had a heavily modded mazdaspeed3 awhile ago, i used to be sponsored and sell parts for a co. named custom performance engineering(cpe) in beltsville, md. they have done alot of work on this platform as well and were one of its early pioneers. its a fun car for the money.

my cousin has a 135i and has close to 600hp (just a little under) he sent his 135 to HPF (horse power freaks) in Oregon, had he's ecu totally remapped, upgraded larger turbos, larger intercooler, exhaust, intake, meth kit and a ton of other stuff. and I think he payed around 8-9k

easily acheivable for 6500 if not far less depending on whether you can do the work yourself.

PS> the guy i was speaking with said with turbos and exhaust and then a meth injection...so I guess this is right along the same lines with the race gas.

Easily for 6500 if not far less? WOW! I stand corrected. I didn't think that car would handle that power and make use of it without some pretty hefty modifications and also surprised that its a DIY. I wasn't saying it was impossible to hit those #'s for HP, just shocked to see its that easy. To think for 50K you can have a sporty BMW platform with 600+HP... I'm still shocked

Thanks, I appreciate all the quick replies...guess even though the new coupe will do a +/- 4.0 0-60 run I better be sure not to underestimate the 135i if I come across any.

335i
Plus it doesn't even sound like the cars were in the right gear in the second run, at 55 mph, it almost sounded like the lambo was in 3rd or something

No way that was a 520hp C63. It would have walked on him. Thats a stock C63 vs modified 135i.
135i is around 3700lbs, c63 is about 3900-4000lbs.
