VMR wheels?

Saw a guy with a BMW today that had some nice wheels. I asked him what they were and he said that they were "VMR" weels. Anyone heard of these? The were very concave (I love the concave look), very nice wheels.

Heavy... finish issues... hard to balance in my experience... offsets that don't work all that well on the C63.

BUT... cheap and looks nice.

Not thinking summers...

Oh, sorry... for that purpose, they might be very good. :D

You could do an 8.5 wide with an ET45 or something. For that purpose they would be good. I had a set for winter wheels on my M3 and the only issue I had was that they were REALLY hard to balance. The shop could not believe the weights they had to use.

they've offered to fully balance them... and they're extremely inexpensive for how good they look - I think. Only $1200/set or so.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to tires/rims... which one of these would fit? The 8.5, obv, but which offset? Would I want an offset for my winters? How do I get tires that are appropriate to the offset? Arg!

I actually E-mailed VMR a few months ago, unfortunately they don't make any wheels for the C63.

i have them on the M5. They are very nice wheels. Drove across the country with them with no issues whatsoever. They are Very Strong. i would highly recommend them...

Are they flow formed cast wheels? (i.e. BBS CH, Forgestar. ADV.1 flowspec, etc...)

No, they are gravity cast, I believe. Avant Garde wheels, for example, are cast using a better method (low pressure casting) as are all of the flow formed wheels. Lots of guys have them on their BMWs but mainly for looks.

Yeah - not for tracking, really - but they would make good winters. I think some of the wheels look great - esp. the 710's, 708's and VR3s.

According to the sales guy (ofcourse), most models will fit the car?

How do I know for sure?

Until you try you won't know with certainty.

I ran the VMR wheels in a calculator based on an 18x8.5 ET 45 size (which the styles you noted seem to have) and compared it to the front and rear OEM wheels. Front should fit, rear sticks out a bit but likely fine. If you go 9.5 rear, it sticks out even more (14mm) and you might rub but I don't know for sure. If it is a winter setup, a square setup is better anyway.

See attached...

I am getting the TSW nurburgring gunmetal, do i just give them the same offsets as the OEM 5 spoke 18"s ?

Thanks for the post, Gthal - confirming with VMR that they will fit the C63 at present.

(I want to make absolutely sure that I don't run in to issues, both w/ mechanical issues and/or not having to return them should they not fit)

It's too easy to get into the wheel business. You design a wheel, send it out for manufacturing bids and pick the cheapest result. No manufacturing oversite, very little QC and when they fail and you get sued. You just fold up your shell corp and start a new company selling "RMV" wheels. I'd stick with the major wheel companies that have all in house design, production and QC with independent testing.

I have had 3 sets VMR wheels on my BMWs and have never had a problem. They are a pretty strong too. I hit a brick in the road doing 60 and it blew the tire but barely bent the rim. They are a good price and not a fly by night company.
Not as well known in the Mercedes community but very popular with the BMW owners.

They're also popular in the VW world:

IMO they would be perfect for winter wheels.

VMR V709 look nice.
These would be a great alternative to the 19" AMG Multispokes

So, VMR couldn't confirm that the wheels fit any Mercedes, let alone any AMGs or a C63, even.

They also gave me the impression that they would not do any rigorous testing, they would slap the wheels on car x, and if they fit, they'd call it a match. I'm not sure if that's the norm, but it's the impression I got, anyway.

In an case, I asked them to test and maybe get back to me by the spring, and instead they suggested I just "watch their flickr stream" instead.

To be honest, I was really hoping to have these on my car one day, because I love the concavity, and I think they look awesome - and they sell for very modest prices as well. However, I was taken aback by their clear lack of professionalism, and would hesitate to put them on my car even if they suggested they are a match, for fear of impending catastrophic failure.

That sucks that you were not given better service. They must have had some personnel changes. When I talked to them a while back they were great and very helpful.
They are a pretty strong wheel. I hit a brick that was in the road doing about 65mph. The tire blew out but the wheel held together and stayed on the car. Was bent a bit but it didnt break apart. That was the 715 style wheel.
VMR makes a couple styles specifically for Mercedes

There are a few threads on this forum about VMR wheels. This is one of them but there are more.
