Getting P31 ECU From Dealer
#26
I bet the P31's hardware doesn't have too much impact. A non-P31 tuned C63 is dead even in a straight line with a P31 C63, right? I'm guessing that the upgraded hardware is a small part of the performance advantage over non P31 and the P31's flash is only slightly milder than non-OEM tuner flashes. I'd take 80% of the power bump of a tuner flash at twice the price if it resulted in me getting to keep my warranty.

As for the "SLS internals," does the E63 have the same equipment or any of the other non PP 63s? If not, then the tune won't make any difference and the engine should be fine. The way I understood it was the internals were lighter and to me that means quicker revving.

I can see how lighter weight internals could rev quicker, but when you think about the world of F/I, you never hear guys say, "I'm building my bottom end, and now the engine will rev quicker." I've also never heard someone claim replacing cast parts with forged parts will bump power.

Only the P31 and the SLS come with the forged internals.

I like the idea of the P31 ecu to a normal car and am curious as to what the result would be. The fact that you don't have those forged internals, however may affect the fuel mapping that they use though so a one for one may not work.

Right, but if only the P31 and SLS have the forged internals, then you'll be fine tuning the C63 to nearly 520 since the E63 is the same engine and produces that power. That, plus the many guys on here who do have their car already tuned without issues. The straight up replacing of parts won't increase power, but if the engine revs faster it does make it perform a bit better since the reduced rotational mass.

The forged internals are nice but the M156 in all other 63-series cars make the 500 bhp number so the cast pistons and rods can handle that power.
One thing I would like to know is this: I always thought the non-P31 M156's came with a forged crankshaft, but the P31 sticker says "revised crankshaft," so what's revised? Am I wrong, are the regular M156's not equipped with a forged crankshaft from the factory?

Failures do happen, but I assumed this would be a rarity with these engines.
So please tell us what happened?
Actually, why haven't you shared this with us?
BTW, please dont everyone start speculating, I just want to hear the FACTS, from the man himself.
Thanks
