63 vs. C63 with development package vs.c350
I have a couple of questions:
I am considering a c63 in the spring and from what I can tell the development package does not make any changes to the suspension so a c63 with the development package should ride identically to the c63. Does anyone have experience of both versions so they could verify the difference. Also while there is a horsepower gain of about 30, torque seems about the same. Can anyone compare the difference around town. This car will never be on the track.
One of the main differences is the brake rotors are 'floating' with the development package which is nice. Can anyone tell me if there is a significant difference in repair costs and brake noise (does the development package use brake pads that squeal). I assume the stock c63 brakes are relatively quiet.
The other question has to do with overall ride - I know it will not be like my e550 sport, but I do not want a buckboard either (I have had track cars on the street and that is no fun). If I can not find a c63 (I suspect I will never find one with a development package to test drive) how would the standard c63 ride compare with the new c350 sport. I expect somewhat more stiff.
Thanks

Thanks, that was an outstanding post and very helpful. My sense is though that the even greater HP than posted for the P31 still is available by spinning more freely/faster. At the low end the P31 will not be that much faster - have I reached the right conclusion? All that said, I am definitely sold on the P31 as long as the brake changes do not create unusual squeal - I do not think they should. Can you comment on that?
One last favor, the carbon fiber spoiler looks very much like the one on my E550 Sport - that is very understated which I like. It is hard to see from the pictures I have seen - is this correct?
Thanks

well, i dont think the lighter weight parts effect much. i doubt anywhere but a race track could you be able to tell the difference between the identical tunes with lighter internals. its basically just a stronger engine against catastrophic failure. not that you have to worry about that with either engine anyway. Its nice to know you have it though.
I personally have had both a p31 and a non p31. according to studies, the p31 only starts to pull on a non p31 at around the 4500-5000 rpm range and you can tell the difference in the power on that.
as for the breaks. actually my non p31 breaks squealed. so far i have 700 miles on my current p31 and they have not squealed yet. the p31 disks are a two piece variate and are a few pound lighter than the non p31 breaks.
the suspension is the same but mercedes did make a change in 2012 to a much better set up. they are more compliant and soak up ugly roads much better.
good luck

Thanks, this is kind of what I expected, that is, that the power difference is not felt until the engine speed spins up.
The lighter unsprung weight of the breaks is nice. It is good to know about the P31 not having trouble with squealing breaks.
Thanks for the info.
