A few minutes later I see an Acura TL behind me tail gating. Now, mostly, I drive just right, not overly fast and not slow, at this point about 73mph (70 speed limit). I ignore him and was just waiting for him to overtake on my right. He waits and waits then all of a sudden he pulls an aggressive passing maneuver to my left in the carpool lane going over the double yellow lines. Which I thought was very unsafe and stupid. I had this urge to "show him" but my mature side got the best of me and decided to let it go. A few minutes later I catch up to him due to traffic. So I was like telling him in my head what's the point of that move a**hole. The other day entering the freeway, an is200 did something similar overtaking me in a single lane, very idiotic in my book. It makes me feel good to know our cars can outrun 95% of the cars out there. But it saddens me to see crazy drivers who pulls unsafe moves just to show me that there car is better than mine.
You consider yourself a considerate driver? move the f$ck over to the right if cars behind you want to pass. You are the epitome of what I hate most about self proclaimed considerate drivers!!!

Unless it's a car up to the performance class of what I'm driving, I just let them pass and give them the "you are not worthy look". Most of them are just trying to get you to punch it anyway. Why waste gas, a ticket, etc on something you know you can devastate all day long if you felt like it. If I happen to stumble across an AMG, M BMW, Porsche, etc, and it's just a little friendly follow the leader (not the scare the crap out of everyone on the road stuff), then I'm game for it.

SMP - I agree it is common courtesy - but I say it is also common practice because you know that if someone flashes there lights it is reasonable to believe that they are asking you politely to move over and nothing more. Here in Los Angeles, if you flash someone in front of you with lights, unless you are a cop or an emergency vehicle, you will get the finger.

Going up to Vegas for the SEMA show I came up on a C63 at around 2AM ... maybe it was you ... perfect V10 territory ... all the way up to 185 ... must have been a stock C63 without a tune. Ran out of steam quite early

and cmon people lets be REALISTIC here. that one person who moves is not going to make a difference when there is hundreds in front of you doing the same sh*t.

Passing lane? What the hell is that? Passing lanes dont exist in LA freeways.

I think everybody just needs to relax and let OP drive how he wants.

Agreed, drive however you want. Hang on, this is taking me a minute to write since I have a cigarette in one hand and I'm trying to type this on my smart phone with the other - while driving in the fast lane of course.

Hooray for personal freedom to do whatever I want!!

I used to live in LA and people who did what the OP did **** me off. People in SF are a bit more courteous and cautious and generally shift into the right lane to let me pass.

If you're blasting through the lane going 80+ mph and you happen to come up on someone going 70 seriously how hard is it to just simply change lanes and move on with your lives? Is it something to really be raging and stressing over? I do agree that if you notice someone closing the gap at a fast rate it is common courtesy to move over but not everybody is constantly checking their rear view mirrors looking for that chance to be courteous to some raging leadfoot. Last time I checked it wasn't against the law to drive normally in an almost non existant passing lane, which I'm sure 90% of the drivers in LA have no clue about.

I really don't get mbworld sometimes....if you go too fast its "endangering lives and being immature and stupid" but if its too slow it becomes "get the hell out of my way before you **** me off".

I like to drive on the left lane 10-15 above limit. Usually 15. 20 to pass when police aren't around. Even when I go 20 above I still get tailgated. I do move however, if I can do safely.

If someone has room to pass on the right then I am already getting my *** over and NOT making them do that.

I don't get passed too often but by god when someone does come up behind me I get the hell over. I feel good about it too.

If I'm stuck in heavy traffic and I'm just one of many cars all jammed together in all the lanes then I don't worry too much about the person behind me unless traffic slacks off.

Let the op drive how he wants? Most states have designated the right lane for slower traffic and some states, like mine, make it a law that you drive in the right lane UNLESS you are passing. It is common knowledge, probably worldwide, that slower traffic should move to the right and allow passing on the left. Let the op drive how he wants? That's wrong advice. If you reason that everyone in LA drives like that, you may get used to it, but it doesn't make it right. In fact, road rage is equally common and monumentally more dangerous, hence, the road rules passed by legislators. I would say the road rage issue trumps the "everyone drives like that" rationale. Therefore we should be suggesting the op drive his performance car like, well, he is a driver worthy of such a car, and move over ASAP.

Its a nice feeling to be polite and move over to the right for someone whos coming up fast behind me. Who am I to hold them up? I am most happy to let them pass and flush out the cops.
But its a very frustrating feeling when some a--hole sits in the left lane and won't move over. Why won't they move? It doesn't cost them anything. They are just selfish, brain dead and should be beaten severly.
I do have arguments with certain friends that angrily say they sit in the left lane and have no reason to move over for dangerous speed demons. One big buddy says that if I ever rode his *** and flashed my headlights he would pulverize ME. I say he is a moron because we have signs that say "Slower traffic keep right" He just says, try it some time...
This is a very touchy subject here.

get out of the left lane, it's for faster moving traffic..........

it is a touchy one.......
some people are simply: on the phone, not paying attention to anyone else, and only thinking of themseleves........human nature........
it happens ALL the time here in NC.....
why just last night I was in a tailgate parade following some huge pick=up truck that was tailgating the HELL out of EVERYONE he got behind: so I decided I would love in closer and give HIM a taste......and guess what???? he started to ride his brakes, and weave to the shoulder to try and kick some rocks on me........and I'm thinking, what an ****!!!! he can dish it, but can't take it!!!! Just like most everyone I know!!!!!!
so many double standards these days it's sickening isn't it?
and so I ask: IF IT'S OKAY FOR OTHERS TO DRIVE LIKE JACKASSES? IS IT OKAY FOR ME TOO??

obvious the answer is NO, but I seriously wonder WTF people are so concerned with while driving!

Just some information by way of comment. As bazaar as things can get in Mexico, I was really suprised as to how curtious the drivers are, with a few exceptions. When comming up behind a slower moving vehicle on a two lane road, they would actually move over onto the shoulder to let you by. And a friendly wave, no extended finger, as you pass. Just makes driving more enjoyable. Just don't get why folks here feel they have to drive so agressively. The same people you meet out of the car are very calm and easy going. It must be something about the car and the power you get when driving. But really guys, some folks just need to grow up.
Just my 2 cents, thanks for listening.

There are certain people ( and I am not suggesting that the OP is one of them) who feel it is their "mission" to ride the left lane and keep the flow of traffic from exceeding the speed limit. Their interpretation of slower traffic keep right applies only to cars going under the speed limit. My theory concerning these idiots is:

1. They didn't get picked for safety patrol in grade school and they are still pissed.

2. They feel it is their duty to assist the government in controlling as much of everyone else's lives as possible.

If you ever find yourself on the Autobahn in Germany, please make way on the left lane.. But ok, if there was traffic etc, fine. There are many idiots in the traffic, and i bet that everyone on this forum has had a bit of fun in traffic that others may conceive as "moronic". It's part of owning an AMG..you can't wait to have fun only on the track, as long as the coast is clear and you don't endanger anyone. I call it responsible speeding
