Well the c63 with or without the p31 is joke compare to a GT3. Don't get me wrong the C63 is nice and I thought of pulling the trigger on a C63 P31 but the GT3 is a driver’s car and it is so much fun to drive. I’m in the same boat is you as far as buying a new car. I have been thinking about the CLK BS with SC but it feels like you have so much more control with the GT3. But in your case C63 vs GT3, I’d get the GT3 or RS. You can alway do the 3.9 upgrade unless you get newer RS it has a 4.0 already.

It's hard to accept that a car that pulls 4.4 0 to 60 time (C63) can be call "a joke" when compared to a car that pulls a 4.1 (997.2GTSRS) considering there is 1,000 pound weight difference. (Walter Rohl was able to pull a 3.8 0-60 but considering anyone of us in his league is the real joke). Add the P31 package to a C63 and you're closer to a dead heat. On the street, from the dig, a C63 will pull on a GT3RS unless the driver of the Porsche is both experienced and has an unlimited budget to replace clutches. In the twistees the C63 is a bit of laggard due to its weight and not having enough rubber in the rear. A 4.0GTS3RS (if you can find one and are willing to pay MSRP, as there really isn't a used market for these yet) is out of the financial league of all the other cars being discussed. As for "upgrading" a 3.8 Metzger motor to 3.9 liters, it is cost prohibitive.

I agree the GT3RS is a drivers car that when driven well will reward you. However it does not suffer fools lightly. Make a mistake and it will punish you.

You don't buy a GT3 for straight line speed. Comparing the whole package, even a 996 GT3 is leagues above a C63 imo.

Different cars to suit different purposes. A proper comparison would be a CLK63BS against a 996GT3 or a C63BS against a 997.2 GT3 as all of these are track oriented cars and the basic C63 a street car.

Phenomenal car, completely different purpose. Do an extended test drive if you're even considering a GT3 as a DD, some people do and love it (including guys on 6speed who have it as an ONLY car), but most don't drive it much outside of the track.

Porsche 997.2 GT3
I had a C63- used as daily driver- that was sold to buy a 997.2 GT3, also used as daily driver (except snow). The C63 was amazing in its own abilities, and had that incredible torque on demand. I had it for 2 years and it was my only car which I drove through very snowy winters also. The GT3 was bought in May 2011, and I have put 9000 miles on it since then. There is a HUGE difference in driver involvement between these two cars. You really do feel like you are driving a race car for the street.

The suspension in normal mode in the GT3 doesn't feel any more harsh than the C63 with performance pack. The clutch seems heavy at the beginning but you quickly adjust. Now it feels like a normal clutch. The driver's seating position is excellent-low. I always felt like the C63 drivers seat was too high, even at the lowest position-same with the m3. Being over 6' tall this was a big selling point for me.

The traction in the GT3 is excellent. It just puts the power down - no slipping or spinning of the wheels (I replaced the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups with Michelin Super Sports for better wet traction). The weight over the rear wheels gives it tremendous advantage for grip.

The steering is really accurate, seems to offer the perfect amount of feedback to give you a lot of confidence on the road. The handling on this car doesn't leave anything to be desired-it just takes turns as fast as you want to take them. There is a little edginess to the handling knowing the engine is out back and 'could' snap back on you. I think you would really have to do something foolish with tc/sc off for the rear to snap.

The sound when in sport mode at redline is loud and very in your face. Definitely loud enough for me! The engine pulls, and pulls more all the way to redline. It just seems to not ever run out of power! You can drive it more sedately and it is still fun because of the steering/clutch/shift action.

The only complaint I have is that there is a little too much tire noise in the cabin.

Overall, when I drive this car, there is nothing about the performance that I would want to change or improve.

I think this car CAN be a daily driver as long as you don't need the utility of usable back seats and large trunk storage.

E46 M3, '09 C63
The GT3 is my dream car...haven't driven a GT3RS, but I've driven a 997.1 GT3, 997.1 CS, and a 996 Turbo. I would never buy an AWD Porsche. I love the 997.1 GT3, and I can safely assume that the 997.2 is even better, with better low end torque due to a bigger displacement.

I currently have a C63 and an E46 M3. I would sell my M3 when the time comes that a 997.2 GT3 becomes available and within my budget. Drove the 997.1 GT3 back to back with the M3...All I can say is that the M3 felt like a super dulled down GT3. I honestly wouldn't drive the GT3 on a daily basis, and that is why I am keeping the C63. For me the GT3 is for weekends, long trips, and trackdays! Turbo is great with tons of power, but it is a compromise. C63 is the ultimate daily driven car, and the GT3 is the ultimate trackcar (that can be somewhat driven on the street).
