Specially if you fabricate something like, "And then a 335 sedan caught me in a corner and left me for dead at the ensuing straight."

What a great, objective summary. Your coupe looks awesome! I just got my Coupe as well, with the PP. It is winter here, so I can't really push it. I had a 09 C63 though....
I just ordered a wheel and tire package...Volk TE 37 Tokyo Time Attacks. Just so you know, they are 19x8.5 ET45, and 19x9.5 ET50. The tires are Michelin PSS's, 235 and 265. I was worried about rubbing, in the back especially, but I really want 275 in the back. I know you have researched wheels and tires. Do you know if 275's will fit and not rub, with those wheel sizes and offset? I feel safe with 265s, and since I will rip through them quick enough, I felt I could just test the smaller size first to be safe..But if you know someone with no issues....then I should just go with the 275' out the gat. Then 245's for the front as well....

It's very refreshing to read an objective review without any fanboyism involved. Great job and congrats on your new AMG. The M3 and C63 are just fantastic cars and selection of one over the other boils down to personal preference more than anything. It will be interesting to see if the IS-F will evolve to be able to complete.

There are two things I'd add to your review. The first is the difference in induction sound between M and AMG cars. IMO, the M3 has a better induction sound as a result of having one throttle body per cylinder (arguably overkill). M cars just have a fantastic sound under the hood while leaving a little to be desired on the back end. The C63 hands down beats the M3's exhaust note. It's just plain vicious. It's one of the best factory exhausts out there. I'll have to get a Performance exhaust on my M3 to liven things up but it still won't come close.

The second thing is the way in which each engines revs up and down. The M3 engine is somewhat unique in that it seems to move so effortlessly and quickly. It's almost as if the tach is not even connected to an engine. I'm not saying it's better; just different in character. The 63 engine feels more like you'd expect an engine to feel. Engine braking, however, goes to the C63 in my book.

Hot|Ice... hope you get the car soon. The more I drive this car, the more fun I have. Having owned an M3 and having been a HUGE fan of the M3, this car is truly way more fun to drive with the sound and power. I won't say that on M3Post for fear of being massacred but it is true.
Thanks! The wait is indeed excruciating! Enjoy yours before the snow falls! No car is perfect and the MCT is the Achilles heel of the C63. A true DCT would of been better but I'll let you know why they didn't put a DCT on the car. The transmission tunnel was too small to fit the DCT which would require them to fiddle around to make it bigger which in turn would of made the car more expensive(Think above 85K USD). Until BMW decides to stop milking the ///Marketing badge and the quality steps up, I'm not going back. I've said it before, The C63 is more fun, more of the time. Having to wined up the S65(the noise never gets old) to get anything out of it really gets long in the tooth.

I'm done with Bimmerpost. I'd much rather roam GermanCarForum.com or MBWorld.com, People are much more open minded and aren't 16 years old with a car daddy bought them and the Admins are actually reasonable.

I believe a 275 will work with a ET55 rear on almost all tires. With an ET50 rear, I think tire selection becomes important as some tires run wide. The PSS, for example, is not a narrow tire. Because the wheel is a 9.5 ET 50, you might be OK but it is hard to know. If it were me, I would go 265 for now and upsize the tire later if the 265 gave you enough extra room. There would be nothing worse than getting a 275 to only have an issue.

What's the widest tire you can put on without it rubbing?

Depends on a lot of things but 285/35/18 is the largest I have seen on stock rims and only certain brands of tire.

Superlubricity ran Nitto's NT555R Drag Radial (285/35-18) for one example.

Thanks. I'm thinking of going with Conti's DW. Sis has them on her 650i and they're great.

I ordered 275/30/19 and 255/35/19. Getting installed today. They shouldn't rub, if you look at the specs of the Yoko's that were on my car in 255/30/19 and 235/35/19 their is only a difference of .7" width on each tire therefore should only be .35" more on the inside of the tire.

I double checked with Autoscope here in Dallas and Steve, the GM, has an 09 c63 and he said there won't be an issue at all.

Yoko's Section Width
255 10.2
235 9.5

Mich Section Width
275 10.9 (265's are only .2" slimmer)
255 10.2

The reviews of the tire are pretty incredible, gotta say I haven't been this excited about a tire since the first time I ordered PS Cups for my e46 m3 way back when...

Oh, I have already had an all day track day on the OEM tires, which is why I needed new tires already. Really ate up the passenger side front, lot of left hand turns and all the weight being transferred to the tire and, well, it's not exactly a light car.

Derek,
What are the offsets of your wheels, and which tires are you having put on? I would really love to see a photo of the clearance you have, or a good description of how much room you have. Thanks for the feedback!

I have no idea what the offset is on the 19's that are on the edition one. Will see if I can find out.
