Do you guys have 2nd car? (for winter, grocery shop etc.)

The SL is just a hobby/going out to dinner car. Mom drives a Grand Cherokee, I commute in a Jetta TDI and our main family/towing vehicle is a Dodge mega cab cummins on 37" Nitto's. But I would rather be in the tractor.....

This year will be my second year of driving the C63 in the snow. We really don't see alot of snow in Northern Virginia, as compared to states further north. I can get away with just all-seasons tires. And my E63 also has all-seasons, as the major roads are always clear, as long as you can get out of your neighborhood your golden.

Even with snow tires I was barely able to get it out of the driveway in anything other than that light powder stuff. Any type of slush/frozen packed snow and you can get stuck in a hole made by a tire tread.
I gave up about 1 week into 2009 winter trying to drive my C63 in the snow. I actually questioned my sanity even attemping it.

I drove the C63 in last years winter.. which in VA/MD/DC was kinda sucky. I agree with both of the previous posters who disagree with each other..
If the roads are clear and plowed, you will be fine with all seasons (I was driving on bald summers at the time too...), even if there is some slush, just take it slow to the main roads (assuming they plow you area as quickly as they usually plow the VA/MD/DC area.. which this past winter they failed at).
At the same time, if you end up parked on a little bit of slush that suddenly freezes.. your are f'd... as evidenced by me being stuck, and destroying a tire trying to get out of it...

Exactly, Very common in NY for the above to happen. Its just not worth the anxiety in my opinion.

I fortunately have an agreement with my wife.. in inclement weather.. I use her 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee we bought about a month ago (traded in an EX35 due to space constraints and the oncoming doom which will be born in May).
This works out because my wife and my neighbour work in the same area of DC, and alternate driving every week, in the event of bad weather, if it is my wifes turn to drive, well the neighbour will cover and I take the jeep.

I know I may be crossing a few boundries by saying this but here it goes, AUDI QUATTRO!!!!!
My A4 is a beast in the snow compared to any of my Mercs, even the 4matic ones. NOTHING can stop it! Just dont keep one over 80,000 miles...

My daily is my ML55 AMG. Now mounted with Blizzaks. Figures we haven't gotten any snow this year.
If I lived below the snow belt however, I would only have my CLK55. Not from snow stand point, but from a salt stand point. Only reason my CLK55 is in storage. I grew up driving V-8 mustangs and F-bodies in the snow without all the acronyms for protection.
Would love to get a 2009 Mini Cooper JCW as a daily But the ML is way more practical and with less than 40k on it, it will be with me for awhile.
Only bad thing about having a nice daily, I.E. ML55, your toy car rarely gets driven as you want to keep it pristine. At least that is how it goes with me. However, when you get behind the wheel again, the experience is even more awesome.
I enjoy having two cars(especially two AMGs), and highly recommend it.

I respect your opinion but the C63 is an absolute nightmare in the snow.

99 Civic Si EBP w/194k miles to get me around. But just bought a set of michelin alpina winter tires for E55. Wife has the 4matic. Worse, i'll take borrow my dad's 4runner since he's retired and doesnt need it in bad weather.

It really isn't if you have snow tires. You just have to be cautious with the throttle. I have driven it on more than one occasion on unplowed roads city and highway with absolutely no troubles. In fact I get better traction than a lot of the other cars on the road and can easily overtake them. This might change as my tread wears down on the winter rubbers but as of now the C63 isn't a nightmare in the snow.
Yes, plowed roads (AKA NO SNOW) its fine. Add snow and when you turn a corner onto a side street that hasn't been plowed yet enjoy the feeling of "Oh crap, I'm never getting out of here"
Add the ice/slush we all have come to love here in NY and you will be stuck in literally 1 inch of snow.
Bottom line, The C63 was not made to drive in the snow. Avoid it if possible.

I live in Toronto. It's unlikely that you get more snow than we do wherever you may be. In any case - there's nothing wrong with using a C63 as a DD. Just don't drive it like an ******* in the snow and you'll be fine. If you think you'll be unable to resist the temptation, then get something else.
