Some time ago I ask about removing the stock air cleaners and carbons. I had a check engine light problem but finally after too long and too many miles I found a dealership that knows what they are. Two blown intake gaskets was the problem. Now I'm wondering about putting the after market filters back in. Kleemann said that taking the carbons out was good for around 10hp. The filters are AFE. I guess if I changed them out and the check engine light came back on I could swap them and let it reset, in what 10-15 key turns. What's everyone's view now?

Just be careful seating the filters and reinstalling the box covers and you should be good. Be careful installing and clamping the rubber Y Intake piping after the filters so there are no air leaks after the MAFs and you should not get any codes.

Anyway no big deal as it is all easily reversible.

You're fine. The problem is fixed now. Those IM gaskets are a common problem.
