long crank problem
yes I will bring it back to the dealer later this week.
I might have forgotten to tell that I had my dealer check 3 times for this already.
So I was just curious if people talking about this issue 3 years ago managed to fix it today.
Thanks for the suggestions!

My 98 c43 is having the same issue.
I do have misfire on cyl 2 and 4(could be related)
To me this sounds like its fuel related. The car fires up on second or third attempt every time.

To follow up on my post from 2 years ago, I did brought it to the dealer at the time specifically for this and they were zero helpful...
They wrote on my service sheet something like "We couldn't reproduce it. We investigated with another bigger dealer dealing with more AMG and we concluded that this phenomenon is normal and as designed. The sensors on the car might cause this delay sometimes"
I thought it was total bull**** but didn't push it because I at least had a proof that I brought the car to them already if bigger problem arise related to that.
I ended up noticing that the issue was happening way way less often when I started all the electronics before attempting start up (press the start button twice without the gaz pedal on. wait a second then start the car).
I ended up just getting used to start the car that way and it might have happen like 3-4 times in the past 2 years. Still have the car and don't have any other problems with it so I just got over it ...
Sorry my answer is not really helpful... I would love to really know what's going on but without it happening 100% of the time, I don't think any dealer around me will ever figure it out ...

Wow... thats pretty terrible. I have an appt with the dealer tomorrow, but before they charge me 200 dollars to look into it and give me that sheet, I'm proceeding with my diagnosis. So I will delay my appt.
I've reached a point now where I've figured out what's wrong. The fuel pressure does not maintain 60 PSI upon ignition. It shoots up to 60, and then starts dropping fairly quickly. This is why pressing the ignition and waiting a few seconds helps, it allows to build up pressure to the injectors and cranks up better. I tried to start the car when the pressure is higher (Press ignition a few times for it to build pressure) - this starts the car perfectly every time.
The question is......... why is the pressure dropping? anyone know if our engine has a fuel pressure regulator? is there a fuel return line that may just be open instead of closed/open upon demand? is there a valve in the fuel pump that's suppose to close to keep pressure high that may have failed?
I may open another thread specific to fuel pressure.
thanks!

Hey JPsingh, is your car equipped with keyless go? If so, can you do me a favor and try to use the key to crank the car? Someone in my office mentioned that and I tried it twice so far, cranked perfect...ill keep trying and confirm but wanted to let you know to see if it works for you too. I think it's ECU related or keyless go related...
My car always did that at random moments (mostly when it's very hot outside) ever since I owned it (It's a 2011 pre-facelift that I bought pre-owned in 2013 so I don't know if it was doing that new. I first noticed the issue the summer right after). I've had the car for more then 4 years now and there really never was any other problems related to that appart from having a couple of cold start ruined..
It's not the crank position sensor as mine was replaced years ago when it was suggested earlier in the thread. It's not the battery either as it's always charged properly and I would have had other issues with the car too if the battery was faulty.
I do have keyless go yes and I don't even think I ever tried to crank it without the button.
I can't test it out now because, at the moment, my car is stored for winter (I don't use it in snow). I'll be happy to try it next summer thought. something like passing 1 summer month without the button and see if I can reproduce it.
I'll re-post for sure if I notice it never happen without the keyless button.

reviving this thread again, I have a 2011 S63, and mine started to do this same issue, I'll describe exactly, cold start in the morning no problem at all starts like a champ, after a short drive brought up to operating temps and parked for about an hour or two it takes about 3-4 second of cranking to start, turn it off and on it starts up no problem, it seems like every time it's drive for a little bit and rested there after it reproduce the issue. I want to mention the car does not get drive a lot only on weekends, but the battery is always on a tenderer, and I replaced all 4 crank position sensors, not the solenoid (large magnets) I'm wondering if those will have anything to with it, I'm hoping not as 2 or 3 of those are pretty easy to replace but the other two are almost impossible in the M157 one of them is cramped behind the filter housing and it seem like it needs to be removed to remove the sensors. any thoughts? thanks
