ECU Tuning question...
#27
I have the "RAT" but I remember some one else had posted here while he was trying to clone it for use with other tunes. I wonder what happened? He got banned after asking for volunteers...

Having a second ECU is great for either running two tunes or protecting your tune files from being flashed when the car is at the dealer. However if a catastrophic failure occurs while the stock ECU is not in the car there will be no record of the event in the data logger. Without these codes MB will know that the stock ECU was not present when the failure occured.
I am at the end of what would have been the 4 year warranty period without any motor issues other than the typical, 02 sensor, purge valve, cam adjuster problems which were all minor. Three of those years have been with headers and a tune along with the ~550+ HP that they provide and I would not trade that experience for anything. This car will probably remain in my garage for quite sometime and I don't lose any sleep over motor failure.
