How do I know if my engine is in the potentially affected range? VIN is 4JGBB7HB8AA620104

Thank you and please keep up this informative thread.
All 2010 and older and some early 2011s are affected.

Hey there. I've been lurking for a bit and finally decided to get serious about picking up an E63 AMG. The car I'm looking at has a VIN of WDDHF7HB8BA366727. Would I please be able to see if it is affected by the head bolt issue? Thanks!

Hey everyone,
considering buying another mercedes. It's a W164 with m156 engine. I did record some videos at dealership. Do you hear the ticking sound or it's me just being paranoid about the header bolts/lifters issue?

Does this engine sound OK?

Thanks in advance!

Don't let paranoia set in, there are more engines with miles and no issues than engines with issues. If you are really following your ear on this to check, cold starts after they are sitting for a few days are a better test on ticking. Good luck and enjoy it without concerns.

So I had the headbolts replaced as a preventative bolt replacement. C63 2010 model with 100,000km well maintained car. The 20 bolts were all fine, there were no cracks, no real pitting in the bolts the photos look bad the bolts were totally fine.
Only things worth noting were the 5 of the bolts from the 10 on each head had stretched the very slightest as shown in the photo below, also
when drying the bolts to photograph them there was quite a bit of crud on the surface of the bolts and bolt threads meaning some would be left in the head from removing the bolts so when your pulling them out dont muck them in and out much and clean out the head as best you can.

1 side in a line showing all bolts are straight from the bold head also

From 1 head side there were 5 headbolts that were shorter and 5 headbolts that were stretched by a tiny bit as shown in the gap in the photo

Photo of headbolts they were fine just had a bit of crud

Bolts were in good condition. the staining is on the surface only

Another image of 5 other bolts from the 20 replaced

Photo of other bolts

Photo of the crud that came of the bolts onto a white cloth just drying the bolts not cleaning them.

Any amount of checking on the forum would have told you that you have the old bolts. You have one of the oldest engines still out there.

C 63 Amg. Problem

I always recommend adding a 50/50 mix of distilled water and MB coolant in the same colour that is in your cooling system. This will maintain the properties of the OEM coolant in your engine which is 240,000 km or 15 years. If you add straight water (distilled or not) or other brands of coolant this coolant change interval is no longer valid and the coolant should be changed much sooner.
Hello is new to the site.
Should buy c 63 amg 204 487 hkr

model 2014.

I read about the engine problem here.

Does anyone know if this also applies to the 2014 model?

2008 cl63 mixing oil with coolant

Hello to everyone!

I’ve 2008 Cl 63 with m156 engine, this thing is mixing oil in coolant, new engine oil cooler radiator(dealer), no white smoke no misfires no overheating nothing drives perfectly fine. I’m excluding headbolt failure as I’ve no white smoke.. what could be a problem? Where else should we take a look to find a reason?
Any idea will be appreciated!
