C63 with P31 package versus C63 BS
Hello. I am new and would like some quick opinions on the C63 AMG with the p31 AMG development package versus the Black Series. I may have an opportunity to get the BS but can order the standard (haha...an AMG car is hardly *standard*!) C63 AMG tomorrow and add the AMG Development Package. I drove one on Friday and LOVED it and want to know if the +25K (or more) for the BS is worth it????
Thank you for your replies!

Depends... if the car will never see a track, not worth it unless you want bragging rights only. If the car will see track time then, IMO, a resounding YES!!
I would personally take a BS over a regular C63 in a heart beat even though it would be my DD. The look and track capability would be worth it for me. If I didn't ever track the car then I wouldn't buy one.

they are almost identical drive train wise but of course cosmetically very different. there a few differences in the engine (pretty much unnoticeable though) and of course the wheels and tires are larger. i have the p31 and love it. flies a little under the radar but still has unique style. if you want a real head turner, the extra 25000 for a black series may be worth it if you want to stand out.
how are you able to get an allocation for a black series anyway.....i was kind of under the impression they were all gone?

BS all the way! Even if you only track it once in a while, it makes for one seriously fun daily driver. I went from an 09 C63 with headers, mid pipes, and tune to the BS. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

In a straight line, both cars will be damn close. I can't tell the difference between the 2 with my butt dyno. The BS differs mostly in handling. It's in a different league compared to the standard C63. The rest of the difference is in the cooling, where the BS can go on and on at the track without breaking a sweat.

If you can affored a C63BS get one (with the track package...sometimes you got to say what the hell). My second choice would be a CLK63BS. They are selling used for just a bit more than a C63 P31. In any case all you have pleasant choices to make

um, i think they are the same. but, as someone already mentioned, the cooling of the transmission is probably much improved for track use.

A C63 with P31 is the real deal... I doubt you would find yourself longing for more performance very often. with 275s on the back the traction issues are much improved. I'm sure the BS would be faster, but I don't use a stopwatch on my way to work or to the shops.
A 25,000 premium to get you into a black series is steep... I thought about it when there were allocations available. I just didn't see the BS as 2x the car as my 2 year old P31...
If you bought a P31 new and banked the difference between it and the BS you could drive for free for 25k miles... assuming cost of ownership is a buck a mile.

They have the same gearbox only the C63 Black Series actually has a much larger and completely rebuilt transmission cooler to avoid gearbox limp mode. Also the rear half-shafts and limited-slip differential have been swiped from the heavier E63.

If you can get the BS, then do so. the differences are more than just the slight power gains. The suspension, the aforementioned cooling bits, the forged wheels, the wider track, and the exhaust note are all definitley worth the price of admission. not to mention the exclusivity of the black.
Cheers!

A sincere note of gratitude for sharing your thoughts! I missed the boat on the SL65 BS when it came out and really don't want to do the same with this iteration of a unique and special Merc. I was looking at all of the options on the BS and want to know if anyone else has ordered (or received) the Combination pack (773 & B26 exterior carbon and aero packages). I think the car looks AWESOME with the aero kit but am curious how it will function in the real world (scrapes, etc.). Also would like to know if anyone has ordered either of the matte finishes.
Thanks again everyone! What a great forum!

The car rides pretty high, I was worried about scraping the front splitter but haven't scraped at all yet, so I wouldn't worry about it. No aero kit on mine but the splitter is roughly the same size on the front.
