Wheel coffee table?

If my insurance can pick up 2 new HREs, I'll have 2 left over, which are both slightly damaged. Suitable as spares if anything happens, but if I wanted to, how do you think I should go about making one into a coffee table? A couple of rubber/felt brackets and some circular glass?

List, a set of 4 costs $7200. I think Vivid can get you a set for around $5500-6000. That's specifically for my rims - P43S, Satin Bronze, 20".

The front left is bent from crappy CA roads. The front right is also bent but slightly damaged from that debris that took out my front lip and a little curb rash. The scratches can be repaired, but the guys at HRE said their monobloc rims aren't repairable once bent. I asked my body shop guy about a local wheel repair specialist and he said not to do it. Scratches and cosmetic damage, they do good work, but dents, he said he got a couple back that cracked under use due to the repair methods (welding).

Thought about that too. Next to my Ducati/MotoGP posters. However, I still like the idea of one as a small coffee or side table.

Dang, it sucks to hear HRE can't repair a dented monoblock wheel... for the price they cost, we would hope they are repairable.

I think it's the nature of lightweight aluminum rims in general. 3pc rims can be swapped out, but as these are monobloc...repairing them might fix the aesthetics, but compromise the structural integrity. Vivid concurred with HRE and my body shop guy.

many moons ago when i was young i used to go to the track & pick up used/damaged slick tyres at no cost & get the drivers to sign them & get cut a round sheet of glass for a top great way to make some pocket money would be harder today as most drivers do not own the cars teams do o for the good old days.

Put the wheel on a lathe and cut the front off just inside the face and you could hang it on the wall........maybe a clock in the middle. That would def be one of a kind!

Good idea!

Here's another cool table someone made from a Ducati engine.

Thought this one was particularly clever.

Unfortunately, there's not a proper way to repair a bented forged wheel. With 3pc, the rim parts can be replaced. It's very very hard to bend a 1pc Monoblok, but once its bent, they have to be replaced. There are places that are able to repair them, but in the end, the forged aluminum has lost its integrity. Will never return to its original strength.

We will not fix a bent Monoblok. Because it will eventually crack if repaired.

My vote is to make a coffee table

If you got any questions about dented Monoblok and need more explanation, feel free to call me or email me directly and I will explain.
