emission test failed on my 2009 C63, help please.

My car was in at the dealership today for a 20K service and the annual inspection. It failed, according to my service tech the car needs to be driven for a good distance and it may be fine again. I dont drive it a lot and short distances particularly lately because I have been traveling a lot. Admittedly I have the Eurocharge V3 tune so this could also be the culprit. I plan on ripping it up tomorrow and retry. Has anyone experienced this with stock and Eurocharge tune only?
Thanks for any input you may have.

No tune sold today should have any effect on what is tested in the emissions cycle. What will help is to get the cats HOT. Bring it in (hot), hold the idle above 2k while waiting until you are tested, i.e., pre-arrange to have them test you immediately when you get there.

You could also try higher octane/RON fuel.

Did your battery completely dead? If it is, all the emission monitors will be in NOT READY and that will cause the fail result. Dealership will be able to tell you what monitor need to be set. Tune wont effect emission test unless your tune disabled the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT or your O2 sensors. Good luck.

This happened to me during a smog check. Drove it for a good 50-60mi and went through the check again and passed.

Search: Drive Cycle. If after following the procedures and driving for a while and still fails, could be the tune. Happened to me. What is strange is that my tune passed last year and failed this year so I had to get a re-flash. Instead of taking it in to test again after the Drive Cycle, go to Autozone or any auto supply store and they'll check for free.

Yup just need to complete the engine drive cycles and the ECU will say you can pass. It's pretty funny these days other then Cali smog tests, the car's ECU pretty much tells the emissions places if you pass or not. If you know how to make the ECU say good things all the time you can pass emissions all the time hahaha

i'm surprised that you failed... considering you dont drive it that much.

i just did the emissions test on my MY2010 C63 and literally it hardly registered anything.... the tech was like 'sir, this is one of the cleanest cars i've seen' lol... 6.2l of cleanliness lol

Thanks for all the responses. The battery did not die at all. When I picked it up the service technician said that it does have to do with the car not being driven a lot , as some of you already mentioned, it could have to do with the ECU's BS and this should be solved once I drive it for a good while and then have it checked again.

if you don't live far from the dealership then drive it around and let it get up to operating temps and allow all the tests to run on itself. it didn't fail per say, it just displayed "not ready" and that a shop can't pass a car unless it passes itself, so to speak.

Tune should have 0 effect on emissions. Drive the car for quite a bit before going in for a smog test.

Don't forget that ultimately it is the mfr's responsibilty that you pass. My BMW dlr always had a few cars in the shop where service was tinkering trying to get them passed.

edit: Forgot about the tune.

Still, the dealership can tell you which readiness monitors have not been completed yet and they could probably even tell you what you need to do to get it to done

Just fill your car up with 94 octane and a bottle of octane boost and then go for a highway hell run

You just need to heat the cats up and blow the carbon out. Short city driving doesn't allow for the car to blow out all the soot
