AMG Driving Academy Oct 25, 2012 Auto Club Speedway
#2
I was there on the 26th.
It was great fun, I highly recommend the class. Got to drive SLK 55, C63 coupe, E63, CLS 63, SL 63, and the SLS.
Drag raced the E vs the CLS.
Oversteer correction in the C63
Straight line breaking and maneuvering while max breaking in the SL or SLK
and then timed laps on autocross course in SLK 55.
and then C63, Sl 63 and SLS on the big road course, following instructor cars.
It was a great, fun Day.

2012 C63 AMG
I was there for the Private Lounge on the 27th.
The AMG Academy was at least four times more intense than I expected.
All those AMGʻs were pushed all day long and it wasnʻt a problem for those cars. I have a lot more respect for AMG now.
I wonder if any other auto maker can subject their production cars to the same kind of abuse, by people learning how to drive at the raggedy edge, and still have working cars at the end of the day.
It sure was fun.

I was there on the 26th. It was a hoot. I just loved driving on the road course following the instructor. I'm definitely going for the advanced 2 day class next year, hopefully at Laguna.

2012 C63 AMG
I was at the Driving Academy on Thursday and went for a hot lap with an instructor in a CLK that had over 20,000 miles on the clock. The instructor pushed the car well over 140MPH at the end of that track and had to smash the breaks to negotiate the speed check at the first corner. Those cars with three passengers are probably hitting the first corner at 110!
Amazing cars.

Basic on the 28th
I was there Sunday for basic. Two other mbworld members where also there that I know of. Amazing experience. Besides driving all AMG vehicles I got to do shotgun hot laps in the C63 Black Series. I don't even think BS owners had push there cars like I've experienced. Drifting all over the Autoclub Speedway road course will make you scream with more excitement. We were basically in cars doing braking, drag racing, slalom, autocross, road course laps all day long. AMG Academy staff were super organize and really took care of everyone. Our red team won the team fastest average autocross time. My teammate Jeff who came all the way from Oregon won 2nd individual fastest and got an IPad 3, the driving shoes and karting experience helped for sure! Some quick impressions that I was surprise myself, I like the SL AMG over the SLS out in the track. The CL was definitely faster than the E at the drag, not sure if more HP/Torque on the CL. They said at around 190 degrees the C63 coupes go to limp mode. They had huge blowers set up every run and we waited until it goes back down to 145 degrees.

You do not have to own a MB/AMG to attend.
The one day course is $1,595.00. Many people take the one day over and over at different tracks. Some people come from other countries to try the tracks out here. My class had some people form Germany and Mexico. The guy from Germany had attended this course (different tracks) many times here and in Germany. He won first place in the autocross.
Buy a new AMG and the one day course is free.

I did the hot lap in the little CLK with over 20,000 miles. Extremely fast car, a ton of fun.
My Team (Blue) won the autocross, too. We got the orange cone trophies.
Did you guys download your video lap, video?

The BS is my favorite car. I wish I could have gone for a hot lap in the BS.

Just the one I believe, a white one. Three CLK BS, and an SLS AMG that they were giving taxi rides in.
I had a hot lap with Tommy Kendall in the SLS. Makes every rollercoaster/thrill ride seem boring in comparison.
Cant wait to take my own car out on a track and for the advanced course next year!

Vdub, what team where you? What more can you ask for when Kendall not only is the ambassador but who also starts your race at the drag strip. Our E was definitely slower but it had ceramic brakes and stopped quicker.

Yeah I was getting smoked by the CLS everytime on the drag portion but the E was definitely stopping better.

red team
i think actually my best run was cls non PP with regular breaks
both cars are too close to call. awesome day tho... i wish ihad a hot lap with the black series but the sls is so much more faster...when tommy and i went out he had to pull over to re sync the car, we caught up to the c's so fast
