Odd Problem

Hi all,

I have a portable air pump that can be plugged into the 12V outlet in the glove box. Well, the tip of the plug from the pump came off and is now lodged inside the 12V plug. Obviously, I can't plug anything else in there until I can get it out. I have tried for days to try to get it out but with no success.

Anyone have any ideas? I will be taking it in for the 40K service early next year, and I have 2 other 12V plugs in the car, but still, I'd like to be able to get it out of there if possible.

Thanks.

A photo of the adapter might help us visualize what came off. Can you put some glue on it and reattach it, then pull the whole thing out?

home the point
Get a paper clip and bend it into a hook shape. Insert it into the plug, hook around the broke tab and pull it out or at least pull it out enough you can grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers.

It's too tight and can't get pliers in there

I've got a hook thing I've tried and eventually gave up to trying to scrape the plastic away

Thanks for the replies. After seeing the pic, if you have any light bulb moments, please share. Otherwise, I'll just have to ask the dealer to get it out somehow.

Yikes. Looks like it's really in there. How about putting a dab of superglue on something and attaching it to the "cap" that is lodged in there. Let it dry and try to pull it out. That way you might be able to scrape off the remaining glue and reuse the tip, if it's not broken.

Please remove the power outlet fuse before you do anything so you wont short out any circuit accidentally.

man, that is strange. i wonder how that piece got so stuck in there in the first place? sounds like you've tried everything already, but how about breaking off enough of the black plastic to clear those vertical tabs and then twisting it a bit to break it free?

Yea...that actually sounds it could work. Thanks.

Yes! I have been extra careful to not touch the center and the walls at the same time. I should be smarter and pull the fuse out though.

Yea...you'd think it would just slide out, but it's wedged in there good.

It's not a huge deal but it's constantly nagging away in my head...I know it's there!
Thanks for the suggestion guys.

Might be easier to disconnect the battery (I have no idea where the fuses are nor which one would control the glove compartment). Let us know how that turns out. Good luck!
