WTH is going on with my fenders/arches
Hey all,
Never had this problem before but since I got my C63, every day I look at it after it's clean, I get these black lines / marks around the arches in certain places. Always the same places. It cleans off with a scrub but it's annoying.
In my almost 20 years of driving, I've never had this on any other car (many performance cars) driving in the same conditions, same weather and same temperatures. All four arches and always in the same position.
It blows my mind as to what it can be?
Any ideas?

Thanks Black CLK500,
The thing is I've been driving these same roads for as long as I can remember. No new surfacing, no new anything. Tires are run in both on the front and back so not sure how rubber keeps burning off the tires and ending up all over the arches day in and day out. Never had it happen on anything other car before and have driven M3s, Skylines, RX7s, Supras and SRTs. It's just annoying how I'm constantly having to clean the car every other day.

Thank you everyone. Really appreciate the replies and info.
I got the car 3 months ago and the tires on the front where a few days old when I took ownership of it and then I put the rear tires on myself a week after I picked it up. It has now done 6500kms since all tires were fitted and it still does this on almost a daily basis. I do clean the the tires but with soap and water only. Nothing else. I clean them the exact same way on the 5.7L V8 my wife drives and she doesn't have this problem - then again she doesn't drive like me

More the likely its the lube they used to mount the tires... centrifugal force is pulling out from the bead area and spraying on your fenders or its joint sealer from the road.

Do NOT Armoral All or dress your tires. Our cars are very powerful and will spew the dressing in centrifugal force around our fenders and down the body. I have stopped dressing my tires. Besides, are we too vain that we need to show shiny rubber? Our cares look great with the entire car clean and the rubber on the tires looking just like good-ole-rubber.
My opinion.

I disagree, I have no problem with my shiny tires... however I agree don't use armoral on this car buy a quality product
If your putting on tireshine or dressing so thick that it can fly off maybe take your car to a professional detailer

Thanks again guys. I am not using any kind of shiny wheel product. I clean them with nothing but the shampoo that I use to clean the car with. Andrew, don't you think after 6,500kms of driving that the lube would have completely dried up and been used off by now? Thanks

Thanks again everyone.
CoolBD. Am running 235 /35 /19 front and 275/30/19 back (back with a 10mm spacer). All wheels clear arches/fenders just perfectly and no rubbing whatsoever. Not even on full lock.
This still beats me. Roads are perfect and tires are driven in. Totally baffled

It's probably the brake dust that's on the back side of the rim. Notice when you wash the wheels the water and brake dust pool in the back of the rim. It may be slinging this on the car.

I will bet you almost anything that it's chewing gum...
I used to detail cars and it used to hate that *****....
Scenario: you drive down the road, pick up a piece of gum, the tire rolls over it until it heats up to where it spins off like cotton candy or spider web...
Gets all over your fenders, doors, etc, is black because it's sticky and collects dirt, hardens, and is one hell of a pain in the a$$ to get off...
Problem solved

I know what you're talking about but this may be different. I'm occasionally getting this black grease that can be wiped off on the tip of where the bumper meets the fender. Probably tire shine in my case.
