CF Mirror Covers Question

Hi - Prob planning on painting my side mirrors black and then putting a set of CF covers over them (this way the edges will not have the awkward white/CF contrast...also, if the CF covers don't look good, I will keep the mirrors black)....it looks like there is a pretty wide spectrum of choices/price ranges/etc on ebay. Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with these covers and if there are any recommendations. I understand in most instances, ya get what ya pay for, but I am curious whether all these Made in China/HongKong CF covers are made by the same manufacturer and the price variation is unrelated to quality etc.

Thanks,
Derek

Personally I think CF mirrors are a bit much but everyone has their own taste and that's just my opinion. I think with the black rims, the black mirrors will really suit it.

Out of interest, and not wanting to hijack your thread but how are you finding the Sport Maxx TTs on the rear? What where you on before?

Yup, I agree, just thinking the CF mirrors may suit the CF lip spoiler diffusor etc, but still kind of deciding what to do.

I haven't had a really good opportunity to test out the tires because it has been around freezing temp here in the tri state area for sometime now, lol. I promise to get back to you next month though! I had the stock conti sports on before and I def love the increased tire width...this is why I refuse to switch to a skinnier tire and put on bigger spacers to make it look more flush hehe.

Painting the whole mirror black is a good idea Derek if you plan on putting a CF covers... but I agree with Sam, CF mirrors is not for me... it makes the mirror looks unpainted from a distance (like some cheap cars).

I would just get the whole CF mirrors assembly from Matt in Poland if I were in a market for one.

The ones I got off a member here (who got them off eBay) turned out really nicely. The quality looks good and the fitment is good also. He said he got them for around $285. Now, mine are the '09 mirrors so they don't quite look like the shape of the newer ones, but they're close enough for me.

I think I got mine for $150 or $180. The best money ever spent and they came unpainted which was perfect for me as I'd have painted them black anyway

Re: the tires. Yep - a 275 makes a hell of a difference over the 255 but I would imagine the Conti 275s would last longer than the Sport Maxx TT 275s. That said the Sport Maxx TTs are half the price and given I need to change tires after 5-8000kms anyway, I'm not gonna pay ridiculous prices for tires.

thanks guys, hopefully I pick the right one lol.

Sam - I was at the dealership and was checking out the SLS and noticed it comes stock with Dunlop Sport Maxx tires (I believe they were "SS"? as opposed to "TT").

I ended up installing mine this weekend and though the DIY wasn't exactly easy, i am quite satisfied with the end result. Quality wise, they are not on par with the OEM ones but you only realize that during the installation. I am not familiar with the mirrors on the 2013 coupe but I dont see why you need to paint them before installing the CF mirror housing. Here's a pic:

thanks for your help guys.

Sid - not sure about other MY's, but my car has a white border around the outside of the mirror that is not covered by the CF mirror covers what what I have seen...yours looks to have a black border which is perfect for the covers.

home the point
I think it only looks good if your c63 is of darker paint scheme. CF parts looks great on a black and steel grey c63s.

thanks, Meng! I took some quick snap shots yesterday, but will def take more soon to post when the lighting is better outside....maybe I will borrow my sister's Cannon camera (as opposed to using my galaxy3 camera) for the pics when this current wave of exterior mods is finished.

cptdaz, I def agree with you on the cf mirror covers on darker cars as the exterior color does match in perfectly and there is no awkward CF/light exterior paint contrast around the edges and visible inside portion of the mirrors (which looks a bit cheap IMHO, no offense to anyone who has em this way). this is why I plan on painting my mirrors black, although may not even put on the CF covers in the end if they aren't up to par...and simply leave the mirrors black. overall, I think CF looks good on any color car, as it give the lighter color cars a sweet overall contrast, but on the other hand perfect complements dark colored cars...

case in point, CF rules!

I ordered those covers off Ebay and was not happy with the look at all. I then decided to order complete replacement ones through CKS and they are OEM quality and look great. If you want to see what the covers will look like, I'll give them to you for practically nothing. Just PM me. I would really consider investing in replacements.

Derek, save your money from the CF mirror covers & put it towards a nice subtle drop... better overall mod in my opinion!!
