Map Update review

I don't see the setting menu on my nav screen, although I'm pretty sure I don't have the updated version. All I have is Guide, Position, Destination, and if I click on Navi, I get Map Display, Mode, Block Area, Info on Map, Highway Info, and Audio Fadeout. No other settings to see version...

From the navigation screen, you have to push the control knob up to select "Navi" from the menu bar. You should then see a drop down menu and at the bottom it says "Map Version." This update is v12.0.

I think the service person told me you can find the COMAND version by checking somewhere in the dash with a label. Can't recall where it is though. I wonder if an OBDII could read that.
I heard that if you were clever, a dealer could update your firmware for free.

in any event, for me, i am positive i have the old version if these discs are "2013" versions, since i have never updated on my 2009.

i believe you have a different firmware on your 2011 than the 2009, and even then, i have a 2009 and do not have the same menu as CoolBD does (nothing to scroll to below "audio fadeout"...).

good question. maybe someone that has done this before can chime in to that, and also tell us if they had the "map version" option on their menu.

was reading that thread in the w204 forum.. its a hit/miss with regards to asking the command update thru the dealer.. depends on your SA/dealership i guess.. I actually have a schedule on Friday with regards to updating the MBrace (not sure what includes the update), but hey I'll take it.. I asked for the NAV upgrade and also I asked for the "software" update if possible.. my SA told me that he will check if the MBrace update includes the command; what he is sure is that the NAV update is separate hence the charge of $245

Thanks for posting on the GLK site. I purchased the 2012.2 version in June of last year. It did take a long time to load. The interesting thing is my disk covers the same model years but I only had one disk. Not sure if mine has a Grace Notes update that might have been on the 2nd disk.
So here is the funny thing as I am writing this post I decided to pop the disk into laptop to see if there is any indication of a Grace Notes update and to my surprise every file is dated 6/17/11 which is a year before. I'd be interested to find out what dates are on the files for the 2013 disk. This is sort of a joke that the files were a year old before I got them and that was only the date the files were written to the DVD. I wonder how current the maps really are.
I got an offer of a $50.00 pre-paid Visa card in exchange for there standard fee plus shipping and tax. Not that I dislike the Nav system but how do you call the 2nd release of their 2012 DVD current when the files are already a year old. What a racket.

Here is an update. I have gone back and forth with Navteq about there map updates. The bottom line is they are a data company and not in the Navigation software business not at least for MB. They told me if I was having a problem with the software I needed to speak with my MB dealer not with them.
So for those of you that expect the map interface to be different you don't get that by buying a map update only the roads and POI's.
For me it's back to the drawing board and now I have to see if MB will do something about the interface and the errors it has created for me.
