Question C63 Oil Temp?

Hey I know coolant issues have been a huge problem, but I have been checking up on my oil temp recently, and for the past couple of weeks I realized that I am getting 210-220 degrees Fahrenheit cruising and 230-240 degrees fahrenheit when driving a hard.

I know that this is awful compared to a bunch of you guys, but do you guys know why this could be happening? I live in California, in normally 60-70 degree weather. I hear it could be an over-flood of oil, but I doubt it. I did an oil change at around 3,500 miles, and now I am at about 4,500 miles.

Did a charcoal delete and aFe dry filter.

Sounds normal. I'm in NorCal and my average oil temp is around 200-220 when driving on the highway. When I'm in stop and go, or if I'm pushing it'll easily get to 240. I'm not sure at what temp "limp mode" kicks in, though.

Limp mode will kick in When oil temps reach about 280 degrees
The non black series c63 are well known to over heat and the stock coolers suck hence MB upgraded both oil and trans coolers on the black series

Oh it's normal? I see some people worrying about high 100 degrees Celsius so it got me questioning. It's also cold at the moment, and hasn't even hit around the 80's in socal, so I'm betting the oil temps will rise, but I still should not be worried?

Well, I've made several trips down to SoCal in the C63 even during our California summers. I haven't always paid attention to the temps, but I've never had an issue. I keep an eye NOW and make sure my coolant levels don't drop at all with all of the dreaded headbolt issues. The highest I've ever seen my car go was 248. There is also supposed to be a flash for our cars that raises the conservative limp mode tolerances so that could be eliminated too. Your car is newer so here shouldn't be any headbolt scares.

I'd ask your service rep about that flash.

The temps you listed are very normal. My car always sits at 212F when cruising and will quickly get into the 235-245F range when it's pushed. I've been in the 250's before too. Unless you're getting into the 260-270F I wouldn't sweat it the least bit, the car will shut down before any harm is done. I believe the 2012+ MY cars are more prone to "limp mode" but I think there's a reflash available that addresses this and it usually only happens on the track (regardless, it's still unthinkable for a car like this). I have a 2011 and have pushed this car above and beyond what you can do on the street and I have never gone into limp mode once.

BTW there's got to be at least a half a dozen threads on this topic already, always check the search function, there's a ton of info here. GL and go enjoy that beast!
