Super noisy gearbox fan P31
So I know I asked this before, and I even spoke to my dealer and SA about this multiple times.. they all assure me its operating as designed. I drive in M mode allot as in 90% of the time. only and only in M mode within i would say 10min there is this fan, i think its at the front left fender and when it kicks in, it sounds like a f*** tornado. I mean when in the mornings i park the car the guys goes WTF is that is that your car that makes that sound. its bananas.. Its incredibly loud.
I dont have LSD, I know, i actually ordered it and payed for it but it was never on my built sheet grrrr dealer made good for the mistake though..
anyway.. anyone else heard this on their car and thinks is kind of overkill?
my 2010 c63 did not have this cooler, so I am not sure if this is a 2012 thing or a p31 thing. my 2010 had LSD
i am 99.999% I think its the transmission cooler..
all insight appreciated.. tia

2012 C63 coupe P31/LSD
I think the fan is triggered by high oil temps. When my oil temp reaches about 235-240 deg F the fan comes on and stays on until it cools down to about 230-225. Yes It's very loud. These cars run pretty hot. You are probably revving the car harder in manual therefore your fan starts running sooner. If you drive hard in S mode you should see your fan come on just as easily as in M mode. I think this is normal. Watch your oil temp as you drive and see if you notice a trend.

The fan is for the auxiliary engine oil cooler in the passenger side bumper behind the bumper grill. Sounds like it is working properly to me. Check you engine oil temperature the next time it comes on. I think that AMG9 has it correctly.

My 2012 has it in Rt Frt , you can feel it drawing air in through the front duct. Yes it makes a "loud" fan sound , but it is cooling down the engine. I wish it ran before the oil temp got so hot, so we wouldn't go into limp mode. I may look into the Black Series larger coolers, when we get alittle more info on the labor involved in the install. I miss the track. My local track just got resurfaced cause they are hosting an Indycar race this year. It is SMOOTH with killer grip.
I had a well sorted corvette trackcar with large coolers, that would run all day in 95 F heat and stay out of the danger zone.
If you are going to drive hard , monitor your oil temp #1.
Periodically clean your coolers with a hose to keep them at full potential.
The only downside to the 2012 C63 I have scene is it's inability to handle the heat it generates. Sad they built such a great performance car but didn't put bigger coolers on it. Would have cost $100 to engineer it into the base car.
