Thanks, yes I realize the SLS is a dry sump (really more of a dret system like the LS7/LS9 than a true dry sump but I guess dry sump works better for marketing) but didn't know there were differences between the BS and the C63, now I wonder what other differences there are as the standard C63 started with one block that was superseded by another number. The P31 has its own part number and the BS has its own part number. And more importantly do any of those changes make a difference in performance or reliability? Also wonder why they would close the vents, in my experience added vents between cyclinders reduces pumping losses (like in the LS6) except in true dry sump systems that create a vacuum or engines that run a vacuum pump.

The 507 is a beauty, can not go wrong with that decision if you go that route.

I'll take that as a compliment all day! This particular build needed to emphasize just how radical a big cam LSx can get and still be driven on the streets. I'm not going to say it's like driving stock, but it's not bad at all.

Wheel width: I would have gone wider, but there isn't a tire that would fit

Agreed. Although I know there are a couple things that will bother me (like the spoiler not being CF).

Rage -

I know about the SLS motor (M159 w/ dry sump), but didn't know about the BS having a different block form the P31 car. Both block part numbers that TTA850 referenced (1560109900 for the P31, 1560109800 for the BS) show up as being applicable to a number of '07-'12 C63 and E63 cars (w/ chassis numbers even) on the web. Where did you find that information? The 9900 block does not simply supersede the 9800?

As for any actual gains, if your crank is sloshing around in the oil in a wet sump you're indeed going to lose *some* power, but it's not going to amount to much. Am quite interested as to why they decided to block off half of the sump holes though. I am sure there is a reason, but it appears to be counterintuitive from a purely logical perspective...

The original article is gone, but scroll down to the insideline article:

http://www.germancarforum.com/commun...-thread.40865/

Additionally, the Black Series engine block omits the base C63's internal sump vents between adjacent crankshaft bearings. This transforms the bottom end into a series of isolated V2 compartments meant to capture the pressure buildup beneath each plummeting piston to help push it up again for additional torque. The trade-off is a lumpier idle, but we're OK with that.

Got it - thanks for the link! That is indeed very clever stuff. And, if the compromise is a lumpier idle, I can see why they wouldn't put that block on the regular (non-BS) C63s.

Cheers,
Doug

So I recall mentioning I'd update this thread so here goes:

Wheels got accidentally ordered in black so I put together a quick 'chop to get an idea of what it'd look like -

This next update is a question I ran across on another 507 owner's thread - "What will be your first mod?"

So I quickly determined this project needs to come out swingin' so the below pieces have been procured prior my 507 delivery. There's more coming too.

From Mode Carbon's Luftstrom offerings, front spoiler, boot lip spoiler and rear diffuser:
In the kitchen...

In the living room...

On the coffee table:

Up close...

The final update I have is the car is completely built and it is on its next step - transit *grumble*

Good choice. Having it sitting around the kitchen must make waiting that much worse though doesn't it?
