HELP.... Car won't start
08 C63 AMG
Car will not start. Everything was fine earlier but now it won't work. The key fob will unlock the car, I can turn on the radio and the lights inside but when I turn the key I get nothing. Where should I start?

Tried that and no luck. I opened the car with the metal cut key and the alarm went off, put the key in the ignition and the alarm turned off so it recognized the key fob. I don't have a spare key so now what should I try?

When the battery failed on the M5 it was like that...everything was fine the prior evening but in the morning the solenoid wouldn't even click and the headlights showed no light whatsoever. My SA said that when a cell failed in the battery the voltage was insufficient to activate many basic functions at all.

Oh, this exact thing happened to my 09 c63 2 months back. Wouldn't jump start either, got it towed. Was a broken steering column they had to replace.

Just curious, how did you break your steering column and how does a broken column stop the car from starting? All the best.

My 09 did that last year. Took the service truck at BWI 30 minutes to charge the battery enough for my car to turn over (and when it did.. it had been sitting for about 10 days).. the cold start bark and rumble set off the car alarm in hte beamer parked next to me
The car needs another vehicle with a V8 to jump it, if you tried with anything less, that car will have to sit on the gas pedal for a very long time to generate enough charge to get your battery (assuming it is not dead) for your car to turn over.

Hmm, I would disagree. It's not like a set of tires or brake pads where they eventually wear down and will need replacement. Have you tried to ask another dealer?

No idea, came back to the car and it just wouldnt start, not with the spare either. Had a 5.0 and a charger try to jump start it but wouldnt work. The tow truck with a v10 tried also without any luck. The dealer told me the steering colum was to blame and they fixed it all under warranty.

2009 C63 - 2019 C43
I had the same problem on my 09 about a month and a half ago. I was out of warranty so it was all out of my pocket. I was going to get the part and have my mechanic replace it, he only works with MB. Found out that the dealer will not sell me the part and that THEY have to replace it due to "theft relevant parts" it's all BS if you ask me. So yeah cost 400 more through the dealer than what my mechanic was going to charge. It is what is is....i guess.

there is no recall on the part and there isnt going to be. The steering lock is in direct communication with the eis, so if it takes a **** than the car doesnt recognize communication with eis thats why you turn the key and the cluster doesnt recognize it or anything. Sometimes you get lucky when your stranded leave the key in for 20min and it will randomly wake up and start working. should be 3-4hrs labor max. and i think the part is 500$? 1100$ seems alittle excessive for that repair but whatever you got your car back.
