Keeping Your Cool!!
For those of you who have been following our updates, and held the curiosity about our switch to the Royal Purple XPR-40... the results speak for themselves.
I mounted the GoPro on the dash of the Critz Auto Group sponsored AMG C63 Mercedes-Benz for the purpose of showing how much a difference the Royal Purple XPR-40 oil and our AutoTech Racing closeout panel made. You can see the oil temps rarely rise above 230 degrees and the oil rapidly cools when the car is accelerating in clean airflow, indicating the closeout panel is forcing airflow through the front heat exchangers and not over the top of the radiator support.
The video was shot at Daytona International Speedway during the One Lap of America event. At this point this Royal Purple Oil Change had logged 1800 miles of highway speeds street driving, our NOLA test, and five different track events of WOT hard driving, equaling nearly 127 miles of abuse.
Its clear that changing from the Mobil1 factory spec oil makes a HUGE difference. Not once during the OLOA2013 event did we need to add any oil or did we notice any consumption of such. Our Weistec oil/air separator only accumulated a small amount, less than a half-ounce during the entire event.
I can now say without any doubt, the oil and closeout panel made a huge difference in our ability to compete reliably. Not once over the span of the week did I ever have the ECU restrict the power due to engine oil or coolant temps. So enjoy the video, share it with those you think it might help and leave a comment if you will.
Sorry for the horrendous sound quality of the Newest GoPro on the market... their new "Black Series" is JUNK!

Oil temps soaring to 260 degrees PLUS is a problem!! While we were stopped at Carolina Motorsports Park during the OLOA event... another C63 driver who had been following us come over to our garage area to inquire how we were able to run so hard in the earlier session without issue. He stated that his best attempt is two, maybe three laps before his car goes from Manual to Sport then locks him in 7th gear shut-down always within 5-7 laps of hard driving. What I asked him first was what oil is he running... to which his reply was the Mobil1 factory spec. Simple problem... replace the oil.
What many of you die-hard warranty book followers do not get is that Mobil1 spends millions of dollars to get that factory spec fill to increase their sales. BMW bought into it back in 2001 and ate the farm when their engines started coming apart. My M3 spun a bearing and I was told it was from abuse, warranty denied. It took a class action suit to get BMW to admit it was their Mobil1 oil and since then, the fix was a switch to Castrol. Even still... the clingy film properties of the TWS 0-60W is a band-aid and a thick one at that!!
So run what you want... it will be the burden of the manufacturer/dealer to prove your oil caused the failure and with technology the way it is today, many so-called oil failures are truly found out to be caused by something entirely unrelated to lubrication. If you care about your engine, taking the steps to protect it are not really that difficult. Relying on a lawyer and salesman to dictate the owners manual specs is not how I care for my cars... testing proves what works and I feel we covered it quite well.

I am looking at the pictures and trying to understand what exactly your closeout panel is... is it really just something that forces air to go straight through heat exchangers? Is it really that simple? if so wow very interesting discovery.
Car is running great seems like a shot of nos at 2:13 when rpms fly up like that! lol

Thanks for the input...will consider it. I had one question...did you the stick to shift from 1st to 2nd or did you use your paddles? My car will constantly bounce off the rev limiter and won't go to 2nd no matter how early I shift from 1st. No issues experienced in sport or comfort mode. Thanks for any input

I just received a PM from one of the mods notifying me that I've been given an infraction for posting about the closeout panel, it's development and testing results. It has become quite clear to me this forum only seeks the knowledge and experience from those willing to pay outrageous monthly advertising fees in order to share freethinking ideas to help other members.
Funny thing is that I do not sell or make any parts, I solved a serious issue all of us who track our cars face... Yet because others want such a part, I'm now facing a one week probation.
Nice!

Don't be so quick to judge. It costs time and money to host a large forum.

I have to wonder if a vendor selling high dollar oil cooler replacements is pushing this agenda since my cheap plastic panel has rendered such obsolete.

Once again... Autotech racing is not a company name, it's just what we called our racing team so people could identify us at One Lap. [deleted by moderator]... And I own a forum, know the costs associated and did in fact check out the advertiser fees. The demands are unrealistic and simply unfounded because we have not posted anything for sale.

You're probably right on the vender influence which is .
The info you have shared is more benifficial than a few % off some rediclously priced parts any day...

Awesome data!!
Seems the closeout panel is making a HUGE difference..
Does this bolt into directly.. or did you have to drill holes?? Seems easy to remove when taking to dealer..??
I definitely want one, as long as it doesn't have the extreme MB tax
