this is all seriously f#cked up.... in South Australia we have Summary Offences Act 1953. Section 54 deals with excessive noise. It is important because a car can be impounded on the grounds of contravention of section 54 of the said act. So, feast your eyes on this:

excerpt (for full version pls refer to the act. you can view it through something like austli...):
..."(1) If excessive noise is emitted from a vehicle by amplified sound equipment or other devices, a police officer may—
(a) require the vehicle to stop; and
(b) require the driver and any other occupant of the vehicle to state his or her full name and address; and
(c) issue, in writing, a direction to the driver and any other occupant of the vehicle to immediately abate the excessive noise.

Now, children, how do we determine "excessive"? Let us refer back to our favourite section 54 again.

(8) In any proceedings for an offence against this section where it is alleged that excessive noise was emitted from a vehicle, evidence by a police officer that he or she formed the opinion based on his or her own senses that the noise emitted from a vehicle was such as was likely to unreasonably disturb persons in the vicinity of the vehicle constitutes proof, in the absence of proof to the contrary, that the noise was excessive."...

his or her own senses???!!!! if this is not monty python then i don't know what is.

do an engine and stock standard exhaust classify as "other device"? if a car was issued with a compliance plate, one would expect that noise emission was taken into account when granting compliance, so wtf? if someone puts on a non standard exhaust maybe different matter. but then, shouldn't they be prevented from registering the car?

with any laws, there is something that is referred to as a spirit and the letter of the law (those among us who are legal eagles, please be gentle on me, I am not...). Such laws as the one above were passed to eliminate certain behaviour, like driving in manner dangerous, public nuisance, etc, etc. Police, as the enforcement tool of the executive branch (government), should be enforcing those laws, one would hope, in precisely that manner (ie taking into account the spirit of the law). I ask you: is a dab on AMG's accelerator an offence? Is a bit of a wheel spin (i am not talking about laying down rubber for 200m) an offence? People break traction on the road all the time. Why the f#ck are we getting picked on? thankfully we do live in a liberal, democratic, civilised states (well, most of us, i would like to think). We actually can change laws by raising it with our local members. I am all for keeping our roads safe, but stop harassing normal road users. Just because someone drives a performance car does not give police a carte blanche to stop and lecture us. If we want to keep roads safe, why don't we make it obligatory for a young driver to pass defensive driving course before issuing him/her with a driver's licence? Would save more lives in my opinion than an ability to reverse park... and if road safety is truly such a great moral issue of our time (heard that one before somewhere...) then put fixed cameras on all black spots in the state (or place patrol cars there). Maybe govt won't reap as much revenue but sure as s#1t it will help reduce fatalities. Wait, i got one better: how about FIX the black spots, no?

Yeah, this is an issue. I'm definitely getting a GPS logging system so that I can prove I wasn't speeding. YES, cops equate high acceleration to speeding. I have been picked up in the jeep (SRT) for booting it off the mark and stopping at 60.

I've heard ALL of this before......and ya know what, all the "protestations", and of course anybody's free to make 'em, will not make a scrap of difference, not in the Nanny State of Victoria anyway, can't speak for other places, 'cause I don't know.
The Laws we have are ridiculous, probably promolugated by bicycle riding, Prius owning, climate change fanatics.
In Victoria, we've got the VACC & the RACV, BOTH stating some of our laws are ridiculous, as is the emphasis on SPEED, SPEED, SPEED, & also quite blatant "revenue raising"....and ya know what....they ain't making NO difference....so ya simply have to "comply"...or face the consequences.
These "Laws" have 90% spoiled my driving enjoyment, as a consequence of which, I don't drive around the city much any more,...simply can't be bothered watching for cameras, radar, etc etc, 40kph "limits" in unnecessary & unexpected locations, & the possibility of paying a $200 fine for 3-4ks over.
Just got back from a 1200k trip in the C63 in the Aussie bush, bullet straight roads, NO traffic, speed limit 100Ks....did I adhere to it...ABSOLUTELY....ya never know where the cops are....I was cruising around in the middle of nowhere, & what comes over the crest of a hill,....you guessed it,..Mr. Plod.
I've been around a long time, competed in plenty of car shows etc, after which as ya'd be leaving, there'd usually be few young kids at the gate, giving ya the sign to "spin 'em up" which we would,...a bit of opposite lock, a bit of smoke, all good stuff,.....BUT NOT ANY MORE,...those days are over.
I ain't ranting guys, there's no use, like I said, the "RULEMAKERS" take no notice, so I've just gotta cop it. Do I like it?...NO.

Pickles, i understand your sentiment, but if we continue to take it, where does it end? do we really resign ourselves to be treated like this? Nothing stops us making our sentiment known to the local state parliament members and their federal colleagues. this idiotic trajectory, where the laws are aimed at the lowest common denominator, unchecked interpretative powers in the hands of Police, furthermore, in multitude of cases burden of proof resting on those who must prove their innocence rather than on the accusers to prove the guilt, it's an abomination of what one would call a "rule of law".

I do believe that it is up to us, free men and women of this country to shape its future. Remaining silent and resigned would be unforgivable.

507,....Done that. Was in touch with our local MP, with whom I get along with very well, & told her last week that the latest rules were simply "revenue raising"...she was apologetic, & said, "well it does look like it doesn't it,...I'll take it on board"...Yeah right.
But of course I DO agree with you, ya've gotta make your displeasure known....no doubt at all about that,.......but it also looks to me that there's no doubt that nothing will ever change.
I mean, I was in the middle of the bush recently, the car will do 260,...I can only do 100,...bullet straight good road, clear weather, no traffic,...all I can do is "idle along" at about 1800RPM....absolute B.S.

I could not find any references to it in the Ordering Guide. However, following quick search on MBWorld i discovered that ChrisAnders (one of MBWorld members) has this option listed on his car. I suggest you PM him

Dubaione - I'm in Vancouver and seriously thinking on making the 507 my next ride, but probably won't be in position to put my order in until spring. Does yours have carbon fibre trim and spoiler? I understand this is supposed to be standard for Canada deliveries.

Hey all,

My C63 is now at the dealer in pre-delivery.

Not happy about the wheel choice, I should have paid extra for the black. I love the seats.

The speedo has 16k on it, this appears to be high. What did everyone else have when their cars were delivered to Australia?

Looks great. I think those wheels look better than black ones would on that colour. I don't remember how many kms were on mine on delivery, but I did make a point of stressing to the dealer that nobody was to drive it.
