Wheel Spacers for Our Cars
Good or bad? I want a more flushed look, and hopefully have good performance. H R pamphlets say their spacers have performance improvements.
Been searching around forums and on the web and some say that spacers are bad for the car because it puts extra stress on the drivetrain.
I don't plan tracking the car, but I don't like the idea that it "could" cause major problems in the long run. Your thoughts on this?

Wheel spacers are fine. I wouldn't say it puts stress on the drive train aslong as you get hub-centric ones, so the wheel has a flange it can sit on. Just remember to buy extended wheel bolts if your putting on spacers that are more than 10mm.

Thanks for the info Lewis. I wanted to get maybe 10mm for front and back to flush it out. Would you by chance have any links for bolts or recommend spacers. I really like the quality of H&R, so that would be a good start. Will be using stock wheels with 235/40 and 265/35 tires on HR springs. Any info would help

And I got my spacers from cksperformance seeing as I live in the UK, that's where they are based. Not sure of places out with the UK but I think they deliver worldwide anyways!
Remember you can always buy a larger wheel spacer if your needing a custom size, and have it skimmed down to the correct size by a local engineering shop that has a big enough lathe.

What wheels are you running? If you plan on dropping the car on the stock wheels, get 12mm in the front and 10mm in the back. Back can probably go to 12mm but you might rub without rolling the fenders.
H&R sells hubcentric spacers and is a reputable company, so I'd recommend buying from them. You'll also need longer lugs. For 12mm spacers you can grab these:
http://otisincla.com/index.php?route...roduct_id=1057
If you run 10mm spacers however, these lugs will be too long, so look for the 37mm 2-piece ones on the same site.

edit. Not planning on rolling fenders, but will it be ok if I full load a car with 3 Asian girls? ~300 lbs in the rear. Joking, but serious at the same time.

Make sure you get forged 10.9-grade steel bolts (RAD or H&R) of the proper length (28mm + the width of the spacer, R14 ball seat if you're using the OEM wheels) and you'll be fine even on the track.

The only components on the car that will be more stressed as a result of using spacers are the wheel bearings. The wheels sit further out, hence there is an increase in the leverage and thus exerted force on the bearings as a result. Mind you, this is not any different form using wheels with different widths and/or lower offsets where the center of the wheel sits further out than with the OEM setup.

These are the H&R spacers for your car:
http://www.hrsprings.com/application...ts/25/945/2011
The part # for the 10mm spacers is 2055665, the 12mm are 2455665.
The bolts are here:
http://www.hrsprings.com/applications/bolts
You need M14x1.5, R14 ball seat for the OEM wheels. OEM length is 28mm, so if you're going with 12mm spacers, the bolts you'll need are part # 1454002. One word of caution: the bolts on the rear wheels have to clear the parking brake shoes & springs inside the hub, and unfortunately on our cars the margin is only about 3mm. If your bolts are too short, you won't have enough threads to secure the wheels properly; if they are too long (in the back), they will hit the parking brake mechanism in the hub. H&R doesn't make a 38mm-long bolt, so if you go with 40mm bolts and 10mm spacers you will likely have problems on the rear. I haven't checked to see if RAD makes a 38MM bolt for our cars.

I would say go with 15mm front and 10mm rear.
Here is how it looked on my car on H&R springs:

No, no rubbing in front.
But if you go with 10mm in the back, you can't run certain 275 tires (Michelin PSS and other brands which run wider).

Can you guarantee that they are 10.9 hardness grade, quenched and tempered steel (like the RAD and H&R bolts), not some cheap Chinese garbage?
A few years ago at a DE event at a local racetrack, there was a nicely modified E36 M3 driving in front of me. I watched in horror as his front left wheel flew off the car in a tight right-hander (he spun and hit the barrier - he was fortunately not injured) and I barely managed to avoid hitting him myself. After the event was stopped and everyone and everything was safely out of the way, upon inspection it turned out that all five wheel bolts had broken - two had sheared off and three had the threads stripped clean off. He told us that he had bought them from a local accessories store to match his nice car and wheels (I know they were properly torqued as we were parked beside each other in the paddock and I watched him do it). They sure looked nice while they lasted.
I am certainly not suggesting that the bolts you are selling are cheap, nor am I trying to start a flame war - I am just stating that unless they're made from hardened steel and have the proper markings, *I* would get a set of ABS plastic bolt caps instead (a la Audi - I have seen silver/gray, black and even chrome). Just as nice looking but much safer IMHO.

Our bolts are Japanese made and they are made from SCM435 hardened steel. I have been selling these bolts on MBWorld for years, I used to sell them under the profile name Staff@world so I am sure you can loo up my old posts and realize that I am not making up some hardened steel thing because you are asking about if they are hardened or not. I have been explaining the quality of these bolts for a long time and I am sure that you can ask questions about them and customers will comment to you about them.
DadsC63 has bought several sets of bolts from me it all different lengths and he drives his car around the track harder than anyone else I know on MBWorld. The only ones that we make for ourselves in Japan are the black bolts, I have no idea where the chrome bolts are made.
As for the correct markings on the bolts, I have never seen any markings on any wheel bolts no matter where they came from.
Please feel free to do your due diligence before you buy anything from me, I only try and supply high quality parts and the prices that we charge reflect the quality of those parts. the set of black wheel bolts are $120.00 for 20 pieces so they come out to $6.00 a piece and you can buy them in any quantity that you like. If you need 10 in a stock length and 10 in extended length you can do that, if you only need 1 you can do that as well.

That's great - I am glad that you sell quality parts. As I said, I was not implying anything about your specific bolts, only that there are cheap parts out there that look nice but may break under high loads.
As for the bolt markings, every single Mercedes OEM, RAD or H&R bolt that I have ever seen has a 10.9 marking stamped right on the head.

roswell is running 12mm in front and 10mm in back, if memory serves. his tires are the same widths as stock, and it looks pretty flush. if you run 265's in the rear with a 10mm, i would think it would make the tire extend beyond the fender and possibly rub. i am running 265 in the rear and stock up front, so was going to get 12mm fronts and 5mm rears. this was determined by using my simple math skills, but i'm still unsure. i'd love to see how yours work out.
