Well to me it's non sense because I've sat in at least a dozen of Euro-spec C63 and all of them (including my own car) have ENGINE START/STOP on the start button.

Where there are language laws such as Canada, MB decides just to put the symbols and avoid a lawsuit from someone who speaks a language (French in the case of Canada) other then English. In Poland, there may not be any language laws so MB is comfortable with the "Start/Stop" button.
Non safety issue items are labled english on Canadian cars, but my guess is that the start stop button would have to also say "commence/Arrete" to pass our laws.
