As an update, I checked out the battery last night. After adjusting it and the blue wire that runs between the battery and the rear housing of the rear bumper, the car just came back to life. Never unhooked the battery or anything; just moved it around. Wonder if the cold temperatures had something to do with it--the car cranks fine and battery seems to still have some life to it. The battery appears to be straight from the assembly line. Will have Mercedes test it when I go to pick up the spare (went ahead and purchased a Duralast Platinum since the battery may be up to 5 years old). Thanks again Mort.

Your welcome and it seems maybe one of your battery terminals lost contact and got it restored when you moved the battery around. I would loosen off the terminals and clean them and the battery posts up with some fine emery cloth or 3M abrasive pads and tighten them back down. All the best.

Check your car battery condition first and go from there.
Indeed--looks like we were posting at the same time. Definitely would not be surprised to learn later this week that the original battery is on its last legs. But to your other point, it seems I've avoided anything other than just a wonky connection somewhere. Tightened everything down and it fired up as normal this AM.
