DIY: Key Battery Replacement
I was driving today and noticed that my dash informed me to replace the battery in my key.
Materials: New battery (CR2025 3v) and small blade.
Here are the directions:
Step 1. Pull the grey lever to the right and pull out the L shaped key.
Step 2.
Step 3. Turn the key to the back side and insert the Key into the left side.
This will press out the back key cover.
Step 4. Take a blade and pull out the battery.
Step 5. Install the new battery and replace the cover. Then reinsert the key.

I replaced the battery in my key fob with one from The Source. The display has been telling me to replace the battery for 4 months but it still works except it is a pain to have to clear the message every time I start the car. The dealer told me the batteries that MB sells do not create this issue but I have not installed them yet to confirm.

Man, I just went through this yesterday. The guy at the parts counter replaced it for free. He took the key behind a door and in less than a minute he walked out all good. I was wondering how it was done after I left, now I know.

The original batteries in our remotes have both been saying they need replacing for two months now. I've got replacements waiting in both the house and car for when they finally go.
Clearing the message requires the press of only one button. Not such a big deal.

I also have the same problem with energizer battery. Not matter what I did I still got the replace battery message. So I decided to try using the mercede battery in my spare key and the message no longer appear when I started the car. Something "magical" about the MB battery?
