Im in Oz and I didn't like the new A-Class. Really felt cheap. Same with the CLA. Just by shutting the doors side by side you can tell this. Of course I compare this to the C class.

I am thinking about getting a C250 coupe as an everyday run around and wait for the new AMG to come out in around 18 months. The C250 won't be as quick as even an A250 but it has a far better ride and quality of build which are my priorities. I also appreciate the design much more than the A250 too - far more classy. I'd prefer to rock up in a C-coupe than a A-hatch any day of the week. Plus my other car should more than satisfy my need for speed for now.

I agree with above - get another, cheaper car as a run around for now. That way you appreciate the C63 more.

Hi aussie e55 - thanks for your post, good advice I think!
What are annual servicing and tyre cost with these cars generally, assuming no major issues?

Servicing will depend on whether you have bought from MB with an extended warranty or elsewhere. At the price range you are considering I suspect the vehicles will not have the MB extended warranty. As aussie e55 says find an independent service specialist if not relying on the MB extended warranty. Servicing will still not be cheap with the recommended Mobil 1 for the C63 running at close to $100.00 for 5 litres in your local auto store and you need around 8 litres from memory for an oil change. I was up for air filters at last service but imported my own AFE dry filters for what the dealer wanted for factory filters.

Stock size Continental Sport Contact 5 are usually available online at "reasonable" prices from Tempe Tyres or StGeorge Tyres in Aus or import your own from Tirerack or other in the US. I am about to bite on 19" rims and tyres and they will be a US import as will be the ongoing Michelin Super Sport replacement tyres.

I expect to import brake pads/discs and other needs as time goes by.

PS Rear tyre life is not a strong point for the C63

True for all manufacturer warranties in Australia however ensuring co-operation from a friendly dealer (having filled their pockets with service $) can be an advantage on warranty handling. Must say my primary concern was the remote possibility of head bolt failure which could lead to huge $ so I am paying for my peace of mind.

Tyres will depend on how many KM you drive. I get about 12-15K KM's out of my rears and double that out of the fronts.
Servicing will depend on where, as I had my head bolts done by MB Aust and got additional engine warranty I have stayed with MB. $600+ per service for the smaller.

Hi Morganb. I also bought with the mb 2 year warranty. Can I ask how much the head bolt fix cost and did you do it within the warranty period?

MB replaced all Gaskets, Bearings, Pistons etc when the headbolts were changed. Total $25K parts and labour which was paid for by MB Aust. I paid for the engine to be removed, about 2.5K all up I think. The car was about 3 months out of warranty when the failure occurred.

Ahh I read it that you got it done proactively. I was wondering why you would do it during warranty.

hey guys, back again

Bought a house on the weekend, but still am keen for a c63 - I'm obviously thinking the lower the km the better...

been watching carsales like a hawk. cars do NOT seem to be selling - a 2008 c63 where I lieve (about 72k km) was on a few months ago for $100k, has dropped, dropped and now at $81k I think.

I honestly think the a45 and cla45 will hurt prices of these - brand new for a similar price to a 3/4 year old car - yes I know they arent nearly the same but still....

saying this however I saw a 2008 (or 09?) white c63 on for about $105k. I emailed him and offered him $70k he said he has already sold it for $103k. (not sure whether I believe him or not - it is still listed on carsales).

anyway not many where I live, but heading to sydney in a few weeks, might have a look about and see the quality of some of the second hand rides there.

Question - if I buy a 2nd hand car such as this, is it possible to buy a 2 year warranty from a car warranty seller (or from MB if you dont buy from them)? Someone mentioned this to me - I've never heard of it before.

great to get your thoughts.

god i love looking at some of the rides on this forum. V jealous of our Nth American friends and their pricing!

Peace

Yes the new a45 and cla45 are good value (awesome value actually and I might have bought a CLA if they were out then) but they are different cars. I saw an a45 on the road today and it didn't do it for me (I thought it looked good in the showroom) CLA45 had me turning my head though!

70k for a 63? I would think kms would be pretty high and it wouldn't be in the best of nick at that price. I think 80 is more realistic.

As for warranty, a dealer can sell you an aftermarket warranty, only if it is bought from mb would they give the additional 2 year mb warranty.

(a)'12 C63 P/P, LSD, 19" m/spoke,comfort pack. (b)Astra SRI.
Question

Can't see the 45 affecting the price of used C63s...completely different cars.
Whilst I do see the price of used C63s dropping, that is because the earlier ones are older, and new C63 sales have been rocketing over the last couple of years, so naturally, there are more used examples for sale....and it is ALWAYS a buyers market....and if the seller wants to sell quickly, well then, ya can get a good buy. Always makes me laugh, owners put huge dollars on their cars...and, a year or so later.....they're still for sale.
So, IMHO, for sure prices will go down, just the same as they do for any other car.
Cheers, Pickles.

Hi Jimmmy,
I have an 08 in immaculate condition, I was considering selling next year but could part with it now for the right deal.

It is black, dropped on HRs, full Eisenmann exhaust (sounds unbelievable), new set of ADV08 with Conti sport 5 in new condition, CF OTR intake system, apparently a tune but I have not dynoed it to determine but it is quick (really quick!), also have the original AMG 18's with new tyres. I have a set of giro disc two piece rotors going on this weekend with Endless pads, cost me $3500. All major services done including trans. Just test drove the CLA 45 it is nice but it is not for me, did not give me the WTF moment the 63 did so I don't think it will drive prices down. I am in Perth if you want to discuss just PM. Genuine reason to sell, I am 60 and have decided to transition to retirement in the next 18 months, I think a diesel (heaven forbid) beckons........
