48mo / 48K or 60/60 Extended Warranty?

Hi all,

Curious what you have all decided to do with respect to an extended warranty? I'm looking at either a 48 month/48K miles, or 60 mo/60K miles. Car currently has 32000 miles, and I'll probably drive about 16K/year.

So, option "A" puts me at 80K miles before the warranty is out, OR option "B" puts me at 92K miles.

I know it's a crap shoot, but wondering if there's more that goes "wrong" after 80K miles, vs. the 92K mark. Difference between the two is $1k.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Since your C63 is a MY 2010 you should be good until next year or 50k mls with the factory warranty.
Therefore your extended warranty will start only if one of the 2 conditions above are met. So your calculations are wrong IMO and will depend on how many miles you've driven and will be driving until next year.
As for what failures to expect when you reach higher mileage i don't think there is a general pattern. You could be out of luck and run into different issues. If your car has been well maintained i doubt you'll have big problems. Look out for the headbolt issue, intake manifold gasket, fuel rail sensor ... that's all i'm thinking of at the moment

Got it, thanks. Sounds like there is significant diminishing returns from what the company is telling me. They have coverage of 48 - 60 months, ranging from total mileage of 60,000 to 100,000 total miles on the odometer. I was originally under the impression the mileage covered would be in addition to what is on the odometer - but they are suggesting otherwise...

Yep.
If the first date of registration of the car is 10/22/10. You bought it used on 10/22/13 with 32k miles on it. Your factory warranty will expire on 10/22/14 or once you reach 50k miles (whichever come first). Then your extended warranty if purchased will start on that day and will cover 60-100k on top of your mileage at that moment.
So worst case it will be 50K + 60-100K.
