2016 C63S AMG SEDAN

When every new model comes out people complain about how the old one for
whatever reason is better. Let's just cut to the chase. It won't be. The 2015
will be faster, better, sound great...all of the above. Like it always is w/AMG,
the new car will improve on the old, and the only folks who disagree are the
current owners holding onto their pride.
Right on Rory no actually dead on. That's all this is. I am going to enjoy my 09 C63 for the only purpose I bought it. Drive the pizz out of it and have fun in the process. This next gen will most certainly be a improved in all areas. I had an A6 AWD 4.2 sport sedan in 2000...The most fun car I ever had to drive before my C63!

Is there a confirmed lighter weight for the new C? It would be nice to see a car actually getting lighter instead of heavier like most other new cars!!!

Well, according to me. I have driven the CLS63, E63 with the TT motor. I have driven the S6 with the turbo motor and a 550i with the turbo motor.

They all sound like crap but the Benz is the most acceptable of them. They are not in the same league as the NA V8. Never said they were slow, mind you, but the aural, soul tingling experience will pale in comparison.

This will probably be true if the non-AMG models. If the AMG version is AWD as most of us suspect, I'd bet that would probably negate any real weight savings. Expect a curb weight right around 4,000lbs.

I wouldn't wait, but thats me. If it was a few months, I would highly consider waiting... but a year or more? Nope.

In addition, the current C63 is an amazing car. The new one will no doubt be slightly better in some area's, but those improvements would be tenths of seconds faster, and perhaps .10G better on the skid pad.

I wouldn't wait on pins and needles just to be a beta tester on the new model.

Besides, the current model has so much mojo in that 6.2 NA Engine. I wouldn't count on it suddenly becoming a forgotten dinosaur.

Yes
What bugs were in the 08 that were worked out in a few months? Do tell. Are people supposed to wait 2 years into new models to "work out the kinks?"

Lets get on with the release of this car already so the chicken littles can give up their insistence upon ignoring its eventual superiority

I'm pretty sure Mercedes does all the testing they need to do before they release their products. They start working on the next generation cars soon after a generation is released. I was also one of the very first people in the country (USA) to have the W204. I could just be lucky but I haven't had one big problem with it. '08' with 46K on it right now.

Yes, they sure do. Apologies for my remark about beta testing, that was an exaggeration.

I just meant that the OP can buy with confidence now if they are ready. Waiting for the bells and whistles of "next year's model" will always be an issue as we naturally expect the line to advance year after year. (I understand 2015 is a larger overhaul)

My personal opinion is the NA V8 has a magical voice and vibe that will live on . . .

Yes, they do lots of testing, but there will always be issues that will manifest themselves only after there is a statistically significant number of cars that have done a significant number of miles. Whether it's the head bolt issue on older C63s, IMS bearing failures on Porsche 996s, evaporator perforation on early Volvo 850s or the Nikasil block scoring on E34 5-series BMWs, they're all problems that the manufacturer didn't - couldn't - observe in whatever testing they performed and became apparent only after there were enough cars on the road.

There is no replacement for displacement. Get a slightly used real C63 or a 507 or BS if you can afford it. The C36 and C32 were complete duds. C43 and C55 hold their value as will the real C63.

Yes
How was the c32 a dud? Also, C55 values tanked bigtime.

I just think you guys are being really optimistic about this "collectors car" notion. If you don't like the new car that's one thing. If you are just in love with yours that's another. But don't lie to yourself here - the new car will perform better and generally be an upgrade over the current model, whether you dream up shortcomings or not. Admit it now so when you buy it in 2yrs you don't look back on this and say "well what was I thinking?"

As a general rule of thumb I always buy 2-4 years old vehicles with mileage I am comfortable with. That is just my preference and saves some money. All personal preference mind you. I find that many of the "bugs & glitches" possible recalls, etc...have been addressed. In the case of my C63 the previous owner added a few very cool mods that cost me nothing!! Me I will let you guys buy the 2015 and wait. In 2017 buy a 2015 or 16 with nice wheels a tune and 40K miles on it that one of you has tricked out.
Example I just bought a 2011 Porsche Cayenne over an ML63 (see thread). I found out that the redesign of the Porsche in 2011 was a tremendous improvement. Like driving a different vehicle.

The 2.0L CLA45 and A45 are pretty badass and sound very mean for a 4 banger... I imagine the double sized new C engine will sound vicious and perform incredibly.

But i would go with a 6.2L beast

Buy a clean preowned CPO car. You'll be glad you did.

From reading the reports on the next gen, I'm wishing I could've waited a bit more. Financial timing was just better for me to buy the 507 now (picking up on Tuesday!). It comes back to what you're wanting. If you want a car that is a Lion and growls, get the current gen. However, I bet the next gen will be much better as a daily driver. Better fuel mileage, some nifty technology, and possibly AWD which helps in snow; some small improvements that can add up to a bigger overall improvement.

Personally, a little jealous about the possible AWD. I understand how it works and how it only helps turning when used to accelerate out of a corner/slide, but I for the next 18 months I live on a hill. One that I'm not 100% positive I get up if we get ice.... However, nothing makes me smile more than a large V-8 firing up.

Well, congratz on your purchase don't feel down. I think you took the right choice. 507 is going to be a piece of art in the future. Take care of it. The 2015 is going to have extra technology; however, the beast and its beauty well always go to the w204, 507.
