Temp fluctuation observation
Driving up to CT to put on my snows this weekend, I noticed an interesting water temp fluctuation in my 2013 C63 -- if I kept the car in 5th gear, going 65, the temp would hover at 183-184, but if I put it in 7th, going the same exact speed, I would be at 194-195 within the minute! I tested it a few times and it was consistent. Now, I know if that if there was a fadiator fan hooked DIRECTLY to the engine, then it would be spinning faster and cool down the engine, etc., but my understanding was that we just had electric fans?

The water pump is turning faster in 5th than in 7th gear thus more flow through the rad. Not sure why the thermostat is not closing a bit to keep the temperature more constant. What was the ambient temperature during the trip?
