Damn!

Very glad to hear you weren't seriously injured after a collision like that.

Trees are VERY unforgiving.

What happened?

Thanks guys – yes, I’m glad to be alive. I appreciate the words. I walked away with literally just a few scratches.

This was pretty much all on me taking a turn a bit too fast in wet conditions, and the rear end sliding out from under me. I tried to correct the car, and I did, but a bit too late… by the time I did straighten out half of my tires were on snow and the other half on salt & road debris. ABS worked, but I just wasn’t stopping. Smack, hit the tree.

+1

This is seriously why I like MB cars so much. Not only do they excel in luxury and performance, they also make very safe cars! Glad the OP was able to walk away.

This is a great reminder for us traveling on the road during the holidays. Stay safe!

Don't sweat it.

All of us here are likely guilty of occasionally pushing these cars close to the limit on public roadways. Sometimes, no matter how much skill or experience you have, road conditions will prevent you from reeling in a vicious hip waggle.

The car is obviously totaled. 507 Edition time?

Most importantly, it really is both incredible and extremely fortunate that you sustained only minor injuries.

Feel your pain man, glad you are safe. Also, it's important to quickly get back behind the wheel apparently.

Hope you don't get ripped of by insurance and get back on a new car asap! Any ideas for the next one?

Glad to see you were ok, but am interested also if you were running your summers still. I have a friend who is still on his and I keep telling him he is nuts.

Seriously, count your blessings...

Did your airbag deploy? I was I a similar impact in my 1st C63AMG and mine did not deploy. Car was totalled, but I did not sustain any injury.

I learned, Sometimes something like this can serve as a blessing in disguise to make us realize what we have and how fortunately we really are. I have learned, as you have as was well learned, that any bit of moisture, and all bets are off. Never drive these types of cars aggressively in these conditions. At least the modern Cars have ABS and traction control that may possibly save your a##. Just think if you were driving a vintage mid or rear engine car.

^ Airbags did go off.

It was the stock Conti's but it wasn't their lack of performance... it was my fault. I was pushing it.

I'm still on my summers as well. Except I am not really driving my car.. except between my hour and the airport on Mon and Friday (since I work out of town for the next year or 2). Don't see the need to replace the tires just yet.. since the trip is usually in rush hour.. so I'm lucky to be going 20mph :P

Our cars are dangerous in the best of weather when pushing it. Even with winter tires, I would not recommend pushing out vehicles till spring time.

glad to hear you are ok! hopefully you will be back in a c63 in no time

true you were pushing it and ultimately caused the accident but with stock conti and the weather condition, the effectiveness of the car in handling the manouver is severely compromised. tires at the end of the day are the shoes of the car. wear the proper shoe for the condition you are driving in. MB traction control and other technologies are not as effective if it cant grip. imo you had snow on the ground.. should've been sporting a nice set of winters tires

The tires have a lot more to do with this than you might want to admit. Granted you may have been pushing the car but summer tires are terrible for winter driving not just because of the tread pattern, but the rubber compound especially. Summer rubber stays hard and slick in cold weather resulting in minimal traction so when combine this with the roadconditions and aggressive driving, something like this will happen every time.

Def a lesson learned and glad you're OK. Dedicated winter tires are always the way to go in cars like these.

Not sure what his location is.. but it has been 70 and wet for the last 2 to 3 days, perfectly acceptable for summer tires.
