Sorry, your serial number is 156985 60 060478. You missed switchover by 179 engines.
Is this a US car?

Joe

2007 CLS63 AMG 030; 1970 Ford Mustang Coupe
Incidence?
Hello,
I have a 2007 CLS63, so I know I'm in the range. I've got about 66K miles. The car was shipped Oct. 2006, so less than 9K miles per year.
I've had a number of "check engine" issues over the past year, but the head bolt problem never came up- at least not with the dealer or private mechanic.
I had a fuel pump replaced- car smelled like gas, last year. I had a camshaft sensor replaced more than one year ago.
This year, I was told (check engine light) that my intake manifold gasket needed replacing, and there were three broken bolts- but I believe these were intake manifold bolts. I hit a pit of metal (fell off a truck?) on the freeway that came through my bottom grill- I don't know if this was related.
Most recently, I had the check engine issue. My car is currently at FJ Newport Beach. I'm told that I need a camshaft solenoid. My oil sub pump is leaking.
Anyway, are there any early signs of the head bolt issue? I've never had the coolant problem.
Do we know what the actual incidence is of head bolt failure, i.e., it's been X% of m156 engines thus far (give or take some variance)?
What I'm trying to determine is, should I hire a private mechanic to replace my head bolts preemptively, or should I just get rid of this car (it's cost me about $5K in repairs just this year)?
Thanks.
Otherwise, the car still drives well and has never stranded me, but the potential for this head bolt problem is bothering me since I'm sure it's very expensive.

M 156 head bolts
Could you please confirm VIN WDDHF7HW4AA167210
Do you know exactly what was the issue, what was changed, is there some kind of service bulletin from Mercedes?
Thanks
Ricardo

Hello,
As many of you know, I have been providing Datacard info to many members interested in their build sheet, or to verify engine serial number.
I received a PM from a member today who indicates he has a "late 2010 C63". The Datacard for the VIN he provided shows a delivery date of 11/24/2010. The Datacard indicates the engine number is over 4,000 engines beyond where the new head bolts were employed.
Since we've believed that all 2010 and older, and some 2011s were in the affected range, I'm confused about how this one could be outside the range. I did a search to find out which digit in the VIN corresponds to the model year, but had no luck getting a clear answer.
Anyone have any thoughts on all of this?
Thanks,
Joe

2009 C63 AMG
First post. I have been reviewing the forum for a few weeks now. Great site with valuable information.
I'm looking at a 2009 C63 with 27,000 miles. It's in great shape, but I'm concerned about the headbolts issue. It has a one year CPO warranty, which I would extend by another year.
The VIN is WDDGF77X69F299745
I assume it's in the affected range. If so, should I reconsider purchasing this car, or is MB proactively handling this issue?
Best,
Rob

2009 C63 AMG
I read headbolts threads for hours last night. No need to answer my question as to whether MB is doing anything proactively as they are not.
Interestingly, I noted the following within the Carfax of the car I'm looking at:
11/21/2011 12,959 Cooling system checked
Friendly Motor Cars
Wappingers Falls, NY
845-298-0600
friendly.mercedescenter.com
I am going to use the information I've learned here and have a serious discussion with the MB dealer. This car, in addition to being in the affected range, appears to fit the profile of low miles, infrequent use that I've read are more likely candidates for head bolt failure. I would like the options list if you would be so kind as to provide that for me, Joe.
Thanks,
Rob

It's a 2009, so yes it is in the affected group. MB will do nothing until there's a failure.

Datacard attached. There's no known evidence that low miles, seldom used vehicles are more prone to failure. Latest discussion on another thread indicates failures may be more related to frequent cold-hot-cold cycles. This would make a low miles car a safer bet. Again, no hard evidence exists of anything related to when they can fail.

Joe

Your is a early 2010 and is affected. There is a TSB, but it is no longer accessible to the public. TSB L101.30-P-051567 is attached to link below.
