Help! Hardened Sap on paint

Not to ruin your day, but without acetone, I don't know if your getting that off, and with acetone, there goes your clear coat and possibly paint as well. I would take it to a body shop and let them try and get it off. Let them commit to being able to remove it, and if they screw it up, they can fix it.

To put things into perspective, I had a car repainted once, they got overspray on my Racing Hart wheels, before I knew any better I used an acetone based substance to remove the overspray, well guess what... Within a few swipes with a dampened cloth, my clear coat was ruined on my wheels!
Doesn't take much, if you go this route be careful!

If it is glue or someone has actually messed with your car, call your insurance company and explain the situation, should a fix be required by a body shop or a trip to a detailer may be covered under your comprehensive part of your policy. I would not mess with it, let an expert clear up the issue.

As I said earlier, I used Isopropyl alcohol on sap and it worked great. What I forgot to mention was that I tested it first on the paint inside the trunk, just in case. When it didn't take off any paint it was clear that it was ok to try. If you're going to do it yourself, try it somewhere inconspicuous first.
Good luck.
