I've pulled the fault and it is saying bank one air to fuel ratio lean. naturally I'd assume mass air flow. the cel does not flash, but will cycle and turn off after days and may not return for weeks. I was a quart low on oil and added a bit, then the car was having a rough idle. any ideas on what else may be going on?

I have a new maf on order and will change the plugs at the same time as well.

Probably just pissed away your money on a maf.

Lean code means you have an intake leak after the maf.

Intake manifold seals or purge valve are usually the cause.

Same as above intake manifold leak, purge valve, faulty MAFs or simply airboxes not properly sealed.

thanks for the info. I will double check my seals on the air boxes (threw in dry filters awhile ago). then go from there. purge valves easy to replace?

Yeah. MAF will have a separate code. Check your intake path, just a tiny vacuum leak will cause lean code

S550 on order
it isn't the airboxes, or the intake manifold, it's the car being retarded, I put my stock airboxes back on, no leaks, had my intake manifold replaced 6-7 months ago, no leaks, Car throws lean bank 1&2 ...at this point I could give 2 ****s about the CEL anymore, it's obviously slightly useless because even the dealership will admit theres no reason CEL should be coming on, honestly I wouldn't even worry about it, my car idles rough on really cold mornings but once it warms up it's fine. I use to get all paranoid about the CEL but now i realized 70-80% of the time it's nothing, I mean when my intake manifold was shot the CEL didn't even come on, but it comes on for 0 reason now? Wat..the intake manifold is a $5,000+ part and the car doesn't even turn on CEL for it? But it turns on CEL over a stupid dinky lean? makes NO sense, CEL's have 0 logic behind them, it's just random chance

and as for a tiny leak, wrong, when my intake manifold was shot, the car whistled so loud because of leaking air..guess what, no cel then, although the car ran like ****

The cel is not 'random chance'
It is triggered based on parameters being out of tolerance

If it reads lean it is running lean
Or thinks it is, ie bad O2's, etc
Not good
Fix it
It is not running at its optimal point

I can't imagine a dealer telling you to ignore it

I had the same code repeatedly on an 09 as well. Dealer replaced the MAF a couple times and decided to look into it more carefully the third time. Leaky gasket on one of the intake manifolds.

There is a known issue with the intake manifold gasket. I had the dealer replace mine early on under warranty.
