Do We Have Windshield UV Protector Coat?

Hello, I'm curious if we have this UV protector coat on the w204 windshields.. My s55 has it and it interferes with my radar unless I have it mounted in a designated spot for that kind of stuff (bottom/middle-right). So do we have it? just wanna know if we do so I can mount my new radar up high if possible.. Thanks guys

No, it doesn't. But my CL63 used to have it and it was a pain. My Ezpass wasn't working and my radar detector went off always too late.

Alrights thanks, thats kinda what I thought. Yea the radar readings in my s55 were brutal until I found out there was a spot for mounting ez-passes and radars and stuff, only problem is thats its on the bottom of the windshield and not the top? kinda dumb in my opinion but I guess they put it there for reason

Yes, I figured that out when I saw other S-Classes that mounted their E-Z pass on the bottom of the windshield in the center. I did the same and the E-zpass worked fine.

I would suggest getting a radar detector that mounts outside the car otherwise it will be pretty useless.

You can usually see a slight square "tint" or purple-ish hue when viewed at an angle in that area if your windshield has it. But to answer the question: no, our cars don't have it.

There is some type of uv block on the windshield. My glasses darken in sunlight based on uv rays. They don't darken in the car.

The good news is, your windshield blocks virtually all damaging UV radiation.

“Your windshield is normally quite different from the rest of your glass, in that it’s two pieces of glass laminated with a layer of plastic – vinyl – in between,” says Vandal. “So that triple-layer system by its nature – because plastics don’t like UV – contains UV inhibitors that protect the plastic and as a result also protect any transmission of UV through it. So a windshield, laminated glass, blocks 98 to 99 per cent of all UV – A, B or C.”

Due to safety regulations, all windshields in North America are made of laminated glass. The side and back windows, however, are typically a single layer of thicker, tempered glass.
