I have a question for everyone. I will be purchasing a MB this week sometime and I am having trouble deciding between a new 507, a used C63 and a used CLS AMG 63. The difficulty arises because of a few questions. While I love the new C63 AMG 507, it is my most expensive option at 89K. It is obsidian black metallic with two tone porcelain/black interior and has the Dystronic Package as well. This is almost my perfect choice. I am a little concerned about road noise and ride quality in this car. So I would appreciate the group feedback on that point.

The second option is a used 5K miles, 2013 C63 AMG in Black with Black interior and no Dystronic. it is priced at 67K, which is a significant savings. The ride quality and noise level concerns remain however.

The third choice is a used, 7k miles, CLS 63 AMG in Palladium Silver with black interior and the P1 package I believe. It is priced at 75K. I have not driven the CLS AMG yet, but I suspect that ride quality will not be an issue and it does come with 500hp but is a little larger than what I wanted.

I can give more details if requested. But I guess the two main questions are; what is the C63 AMG/C63 AMG 507 like to live with as a daily driver (10mile commute, some bumpy roads, some highway), and new v. used?

 

I use my 507 as a daily driver and love it. Have taken it on ski trips and had my wife and a friend sleep soundly while hitting speeds of 130 mph on the autobahn. There isn't much road noise until 150 mph and that is just wind (mainly around side mirrors). Keep it in "C" mode and drive it like a a normal car and it's calm and well behaved.

Ride quality is good. It is sportier so you do feel the bumps, but the car responds well so they its never super rough. My last two cars were a Buick LaCrosse, which just floated across everything, and a 06 'Vette. I would put the ride quality right in the middle of the two.

I've no input on the CLS 63, but from looking in the windows on a CLS 550 the interior options are much nicer. Not sure if you can get the ventilated and massaging seats or not, but those are not available on the current C63. Does look massive, though.

 

The C63 is so uncomfortable/harsh that I put 21k miles on it the first year I owned it. LOL. It's a great daily driver. Sporty but not harsh. I'd call the ride perfect. The 507 is nice but ask yourself if you need dystronic and ask yourself if you would pay $22k for it. I'd bet that you can get a better warranty with the 2013 too. And if you want the power of the 507, throw a tune in there for a grand or so. $22k would buy you some nice goodies on top of the "standard" C63. I know where my money would be going.

 

What year CLS63 is it ? The price you stated from that it seems like it can't be 2012 or up.

CLS63 would be spacious and ride would be better compared to C63.

507 would hold it's value better than a normal C63 in the long run.

C63 - if you invest $22k into it, you can get it supercharged lol and then beat most modded

C63's with ease. You'd still save a little after supercharging it.

What are your priorities ? and think of the things that you just can't live without or with.

For example- How important is a sublime ride compared to handling ? which do you prefer more ? and so on.

At the end of the day , all of these cars are amazing but you have to understand that they all have their quirks

too and which quirks you are okay to live with.

I love driving the C63 either standard or 507. I love the look and the sound and performance. It is also the right size for my needs.

My chief concern was living with it day to day. My current daily driver is an ’05 F-150 Lariat so I am accustomed to low gas mileage, that won’t be an issue. I have been researching tires and I feel I can swing the cost of tires. Maintenance does not seem to be a major issue either. The roads around the dealership where I am looking at these cars is rather bumpy and congested, so I don’t feel that I have gotten a fair representation of the overall ride quality. I am very pleased to hear that you are happy with it.

It looks like the average MB depreciates about 10G per year for at least the first two years. Most of the ‘12’s I have looked at come in at about 20K less than a similarly speced ’14.

You talked about quirks and “what is important to me”. That is good advice and may be why I choose the ’14 507. I will never say to myself “I should have gotten the 507”, if I have that in my garage, right? And it will hold value maybe a little better than a run of mill MB or even a standard AMG.

I was mostly concerned about living with it day to day. Any other insight would be helpful.

 

OP-For reference, I just bought a 2013 C63 with 2200 miles for almost 25% off original list.

For most people, the ride is too harsh, the gas mileage sucks and the exhaust is too loud.

This car is not for most people.

For me, I love it and can't wait to drive it every day.

 

I would go with the 2013 just based on the huge price difference, I drive my c63 everyday and as long as its good roads its fine. However if I'm in Toronto driving on the street car lanes and crappy roads its def a rough ride...mind u I have the 19s on my car which I did not want however my car came with them or else I woulda taken the stock 18s n prolly had a more comfy ride.

 

I went from a C with P30 (Harder suspension) to a CLS.
I live in Florida and we have great roads so ride quality was never an issue.
I would not worry about road noise coming from an F-150. The Merc is much better.
If roads are not that good where you live then it could be a problem since you seem to value ride quality. The CLS rides much better but it is heavier and not as nimble.
The P31 package on the C will give you a harder ride so check it out.
2 more thoughts:
-if you live by the moto of "there is never enough power", then the M157 platform (CLS) is the way to go. A simple tune will give you super powers .
-The CLS is much more of a looker and rare compared to the C where you bland with the rest of the world.
If you decide to go with the C, the 507 is not worth it in my opinion. Pocket the difference and go to an AMG driving class and take a huge vacation with your better half.
