Check Engine Light Question

I'm at 39,600 miles on my 2012 C300 and the check engine light came on. At the same time the service b2 in 1200 miles also came on. does the CEL light up because of the b2 service is due or is there something else going on?

Car goes back in less than a month so I would rather not deal with this if I don't have to. thanks,

"car goes back" is it a lease.
Get the code read somewhere, stateside-Autozone or such place that will do for cheap or free. If you return the car with the CEL showing you will be charged to fix it most likely.
Erasing the code just before handoff is low and deceitful but not uncommon. The code could be as small as a gas cap not tightened properly, get it checked.

your car is under warranty. No the cel doesnt come on when a service is due or past due. Take it to the dealer to get it fixed for free thats what warranty is for. Why would you bother posting this in the c63 area?

I posted this here cause since I bought my c63, I found this to be the most active area to get a response and since the basic question was if the b2 service was connected to the check engine light going on,

the rest of what I wrote is irrelevant considering the main issue. Thanks for the response.
