One step at a time grass hopper, put the charcoal filters back in, for the .2HP you are going to gain you just created a cel battle with your car. Ran K+N filters for 40 years in all sorts of cars, and even my 63's, no issues what so ever.
Those paper filters you removed were used up long ago.

Weistec dry filters are awesome and make more power than K&N. My SLS was at K&Ns facility for a dyno shootout about two weeks ago. K&N put their ilters in my car and I lost a couple hp on their dyno lol. Re-installed the Weistec dry filters and got the hp right back.
You can even go to K&Ns instagram page and look back about two weeks and see a video clip of my car on their dyno. FWIW, I won the dyno shootout

I honestly think this has more to do with the filter (and or cover) not being seated correctly. I dropped in the oiled AFE with my ROW boxes and that was a 1,000 miles ago.
No CEL
Double check everything is seated correctly, and snug the bolts in a crisscross fashion. Maybe the MB maf is super sensitive, but it seems unlikely considering the number of cars running K&N filters.

Man that's one dirty air intake. Looks like you have gobbs of mud in one of them. Your filters look like they have been used as mud flaps on a truck.
Start with cleaning out your intakes--CAREFULLY. As you don't want to be shoving any muck in deeper.
Then hose down your K&N filters and clean them. Wash them and dry them well.
You could also wash your charcoals. But make sure you dry them really well, perhaps in the sun and over a few days.
Re-install and make sure its seated well. Should be fine.
Been running K&N for over 5K miles and no issues...

No I did not. I ended up flying out of Montery after the last event. I had planned on flying back out to California last weekend but something came up so I could not. In PM'ing with the owner of the tt SLS, I do not think it got it's new clutches installed so he would not have been able to run me anyhow.

What code are you getting? Your dealership sounds like a moron. No reason you should have a permanent CEL, unless you did a ct delete or something and did not turn off the proper sensors. Can you clear the code? If you can clear it does it just pop right back up? Sounds odd and I would think you could get it taken care of.

I got K&Ns because they were available locally. Installed and removed Charcoals - no CEL issues. When I removed the stock filter I saw a lot of debris in the intake box, had to grab a vacuum and clean them up.
The difference is tiny, the exhaust sounds a bit louder.

I am also running K&N's.
No CEL's thus far, knock on wood. I too had a bit of sandy dry dirt in the box that I spent a good bit of time making sure I got it all out prior to the K&N install.
The one thing I like about the K&N, is the oil. I'm hoping when I inspect the K&N's here shortly, all that dirt wont be sitting in the bottom of the box and the oil will have done its job.
Although, I think if the filters are too oily, they will gum up the MAF sensor and kick a CEL. I recommend letting them sit outside of the box for a few days on paper towel before installing.

Been running them since less than 1000 miles on the odo and now I'm at 12k. No issues. I did clean the MAFS at 10k mile as part of my routine MAF preventive service. Check that all four corners of the box are properly seated and sealed. If you still have a CEL, then you must belong in the JonsC63 group.

The air boxes on the North American cars has 2 filters a charcoal filter and the regular paper filter. By removing the charcoals and replacing the paper filter with a high flow one like AFE / K&N etc. You do get a few extra ponies. Nothing crazy, but its worth the 100 bucks you will spend on the filters.
