The mod bug got me bad!

Over this long drawn out winter, I had the opportunity to learn quite a bit about the C63. Researched a heck of a lot, thanks to MBWORLD and its members.

Wanted to really take my time with this build. Focus on areas of the C63 that I felt needed a bit of attention. This years round of mods will be mainly aesthetic. Since I still have a bit of warranty left on the vehicle I don't want to do anything too crazy to jeopardize that (yet).

I had all this stuff in my basement ready to install, figured I'd snap a quick pic to show you guys what I have been up to. Suspension and wheels are going in the first week of April when I get the car back on the road.

Im installing my Renntech Intake today!

Trunk Spoiler / Front markers / mirror caps are off to the body shop for paint.

I will get the diffuser on sometime this week.

My first mod on the car was gloss black wrapped OEM grills and Window Trim!

Either way - heres to an end of a stupid long winter. Let the modding Begin!

Cheers
Kris

What suspension did you choose? Tire sizes to wrap your FF HRE?

H&R SS Coil Overs. I had ordered a set of KW V3's, upon arrival the box was badly damaged and one of the dampers were dented. I returned the set to the vendor. By the time they were processing my new order, I came across the H&R's locally for a great deal. So I picked them up instead.

Fronts are 225/35/19 Rears are 255/30/19. The fronts are 8.5 Wide ET 30 Offset (thus the need to run a slightly smaller tire) Rears are 9.5 wide with a ET 44 Offset. I can probably squeeze a 265 in the back. But wanted to be safe then sorry.

You and I both Matt, I know i told you I was going to get the rears on a few weeks ago. But its been wayyy to cold here.

I managed to get my hands on a fender roller to purchase. Before I put them on I will be rolling the front and rear fenders.

Sweet list of mods, remind me the good old days.. I'm happy I'm over with this mod bug. Lol

Post pics of the wheels soon, I'm curious to see the fitment & how they will sit. It will definitely be nicely aggressive!

That is a great group of mods for this winter. All winters are boring with our cars so the summer will lead to more mods for the next winter...lol

You can roll our fenders if you take care, have patience and know what you are doing. The trouble is there is not much of a lip to roll and you can/will distort the shape of the fender with a roller if you are not careful. The lip by the joint with the bumper is reinforced and will not roll well so don't try to take the roller down toward the front to the very end of the lip. I think the rear is harder to do as the two panels come together and are bonded (not welded) together and the bond can break. The front fenders are aluminum and they will distort out in a curve as the lip is rolled. Ask me how I know and I had it done by a professional. In his defense he borrowed the roller and does not do this on a regular basis. GL with this Kris and I think you know what you are doing.

I plan on a few dyno runs in the next little while. Will for sure see if this thing actually makes power, or if its just a gorgeously crafted engine ornament

You can roll our fenders, the front there is a good sized lip on the inner fender that will allow for rolling. The rears are a bit different.

Mort thank you so much for your insight, i do value it. The C63 have no where near the following like the M3 etc. So those who have experience with modding them are invaluable to this community.

You are right about the rears, I remember rolling a few of my previous car's fenders and it was the same. What a pain to get them to roll evenly, The weld/bond would crack if not done with care / heat. I do not want to go down that road again. If push comes to shove there's always the option of cutting and painting the rear inner fenders. Im trying not to go that far. Im fairly confident I should be okay in the rear with the tire sizing / offsets and widths. If I have some room I rather move up to a wider rear tire size if possible.

The front fenders are what I'm concerned about. I managed to snag a little tool from Princess Auto to roll the front fenders! Pretty handy and only $25 dollars, they only had 2 in stock, I seen it on East-woods site and was going to order it for $90, I was happy i called around locally for it.

Small Details.

One Small mod, I was on the fence about. I was apprehensive about touching the wonderful sounding stock exhaust. After quite a few Youtube reviews and user reviews on MBworld. I decided to go ahead and try the resonator delete.

First day back on the road for the season, (finally some half decent weather in Toronto.) Was a beautiful sunny morning.

Made my way down to go the good guys At Zoro Muffler in Mississauga, 100% recommend them to anyone in the GTA. Truly a talented group of guys. There welds are beautiful.

I tried 2 setups before I decided the straight pipes were the best option. We originally X piped the resonator (Yes I read that most Straight piped it) But I wanted to ensure 100% there would be 0 drone for myself. The X Pipe mellowed the exhaust note. While it was 25% louder in actuality it tamed the signature AMG grunt.

We then swapped it out for the straight pipes. For the record I have no other exhaust modifications on the car. It put an immediate smile on my face! What a refined beast. Absolutely no drone with either the X pipe or Straight pipes. The Straight pipes did not resonate too badly (causes some of the rasp you hear in some vehicles exhaust note. No need for an H Pipe Either.

For those members who want to maintain the tonal quality of the OEM AMG exhaust note, with the added grunt under open throttle, I cannot say enough good things about this mod.

Aside from an exhaust note that sounds like the hand of Zeus created it using his own personal lightning bolt. I don't see any down side to it! cost effective and you benefit from saving a few LBS, the stock resonators are fairy heavy.

Very nice! Anymore pics of the car with the wheels on? They are starting to be one of my favorite wheels for this car, how much did they run you? And if you are still after more sound then I would recommend deleting your secondary cats with straight pipes as well, still keeps the signature AMG growl

No other pictures of the wheels installed, because they are not on the car yet. Im awaiting my new studs and forged lug nuts for my stud conversion. Im hoping to have the wheels on in the near future.

In terms of pricing, the wheels are about 3K Plus tires. I hear you on the secondary cat deletes. Lets see how it goes.

Before the Drop......

Hey Guys,

Few new things.... Really pleased on how the wheels turned out. Please excuse the dirtiness of the car.

Wheels are on, pleased to confirm (AT STOCK HEIGHT) no issues, front or rear. My appointment for the coil over install is on the 14th, so I will post more pics post lowering.

Matt - I tried to get some shots of the rear concavity for you.... Not bad its fairly concave but no where near what the BMW guys can get.

PS: Can you guys see what what else I did?

Looking sweet, love the rear concavity.

I don't think u should lower ur car, it looks like u will have major rubbing. U need more than just a fender roll from looking at the pics, but it's hard to tell unless u take a pic from the rear.

Yeah, prolly the small pixs on my iPhone is throwing me off. But a pic from the rear of the car to show how flush they are would be cool to see.

As for ur other mod, I can see Volk Racing lug nuts.. I know u did a stud conversion, but may I ask why?

Wheels look sweet and sick lug nuts.

Any reason you chose to delete the resonator instead of the secondary cat. People seem pretty conflicted on this (unless you have both the resonator and secondary cat deleted haha)
