Upgrading Command to newest version?

I just bought a 2011 pre facelift estate. I can only hookup an iPod via an aux cable which doesn't charge the iPod and which I'm controlling the iPod via the iPod and not the OEM controls.

Does anyone know if I can upgrade to the newest version so that the system is integrated? Is it a massive amount of work?

Btw I have searched the forums. I'm just unsure whether the command update via software is the same as what I need. Wondering if in my situation any hardware needs to be replaced. What I have now seems pretty bare boned. No GPS, no Bluetooth streaming of music (only calls), and no direct integrated connection to an iPod. I do have an Aux selection where I can connect my iPod to via a headphones cable to a hole in the glovebox if that makes sense.

If you have a black iPod cable then you need to look into mip+ from mb or other aftermarket Bluetooth streamers. Based on your description, you may have a white cable. You need to upgrade your hardware first so that you have the black connectors. I can't remember but a code 318 comes to mind. You should be able to control iPod via steering wheel and instrument display with your current set up.

Thanks for this. Let me know if you have any more details on what specifically I need to do.

This is what my Command looks like.

Do you have a socket on the top left of the glove compartment?

I'm asking because the comand version of c63 in the us comes either with a white or black iPod integration cable. I'm making sure you have neither.

Correct I have neither. I will take a pic of the left side of the glovebox for you.

Ok so you basically have to do this:
https://mbworld.org/forums/4579416-post1.html

Even though you don't have the iPod module with the white plug, the remaining should be the same. The white plug lets you control the iPod from steering wheel that is not as user friendly as comand.

So my understanding is that you need to add option 518, which is a hardwire install. This will let you plug in a mip+ and get the full feature! which is not that great either in terms of interface. Please confirm that your car accepts the 518.

Some with white iPod plug would find the input jack in the pass kick panel because mb does not give both iPod and input jack options as it creates a conflict. I wonder if you have the white iPod plug already hidden in the passenger panel. Worth a look.

Mb took down the mip site mbusa-mobile.com. This is still up for you to get some knowledge

You've been an extremely big help. Thank you very very much.

1) I will check my passenger kicker panel to see if the plugs is there.
2) My goal is to get option 518 installed.

I know the official Mercedes Benz importer here probably won't be very helpful as once they sell a set package they like to do very little customization, and won't do it after. Do you know of any places that I can buy the hardware? I will then get it installed.
