The bottom line
The OP does not need to replace the pistons due to a possible vaccum leak
That has rectified itself (apparently)

I'm sure it's not piston related. The OP will notice more than just a CEL. If piston sleeves are compromised, oil will seep and will burn in the chamber and bluish smoke will be present. I don't think that was mentioned here. A Compression check will rule that out .

I bet it's a lean code which would state an intake leak. Easy to find and fix. Was the code ever posted by the OP?

Code was not posted and apparently self cleared
Wonder if he did an air filter replacement or some intake track work recently?

I had an 09, and it was a beast. Loved it. Only problem I always had was check engine light for purge valve weeks into owning the car. You codes say vacuum leak, but just throwing it out there for you to check the purge valve. You say the car runs fine and light comes on and off...

But the code should tell you so maybe is not purge valve...

Sorry, thinking out loud here...

^^^ I guess if the code comes back, he can start spraying carb cleaner around certain areas and see if the idle changes. Maybe the intake manifold base area.?
