Strange shut down
Once I did that all electronics died. There were no cabin lights, the car would not lock and it basically felt like someone had pulled the battery from my car. While waiting for a tow truck, I manually opened the boot with the key to remove my items. I then heard a click from the boot fuse box and the internal lights came back on. For all intents and purposes the car came back to life except that the time on the dash display was 0.00. I started the car as per normal and it was fine.
It did get towed to the service centre because I didn't want to drive it during peak hour traffic if it were to die on me. So the service centre did this...
"Battery charge rate test - states charge. Carry out rear sam software update for alternator charging battery - states good battery
Replaced Rear sam relays renew for ignition circuit - reset all control units no faults found engine starts."
So happily I collected my car and drove back to work. Once I got back to work, I turned the car off and again all electronics shut off. I can't do anything. Even the nav screen didn't retract. Angrily I slammed the door and went inside leaving it unlocked hoping someone would steal the car but they probably wouldn't get far anyway cos the car won't start! I went back to the car when I had calmed down and everything had been restored.
Again the time had reverted back to 0.00.
So the car is back at the shop again.
I'm extremely disheartened. This is the most expensive car I've ever purchased and I've worked my butt off to buy it ever since it was released in 2008. I know it is no comparison but I never had any worries like this with my Lexus ISF which I traded up to the 63.

You won't get lexus reliability with a Merc, so expectations should be lower. (I'm trading a lexus for a c63 too, however).
