Freshly detailed

This thread went from an 'iffy' badge mod I did to having the car detailed......lol

Adding pics of the freshly detailed car....so correct title now would be freshly detailed.

I'd take it off. Your hood lines say AMG for the car. It honestly looks cheap.

That's just me though.

Yea I don't know how I feel about it. Tried to do something different but don't think it really worked so probably going to take it off.

Was going for something like what the new E class are doing on the grille and seems like failed miserably. lol

Yeah take it off. The AMG is way too big!
The one on the E63 is really smaller and proportional with the grill.
Nice try though

Nope. Reminds me of a Honda Civic.

I'd rather just get the knowing nod from people who recognize that it's an AMG without being told by badges, but that's just me.

Maybe change out the hood emblem for an 'AMG' one? I've been considering it, as I think two Mercedes stars on the front is a bit redundant...

And black out that grille and DRL surrounds, and hit your oxidized headlights with some Meguiar's PlastX. They're easy to do and it'll make that front end look a lot better.

My headlights are pretty clean actually maybe just the picture makes it look like that. I had the whole front portion waxed about a year ago when I had the windows tinted. My headlights have the 3M film so perhaps it's that film that's yellowing a little which is making it look like that.

For the grille, I can actually buy the exact same one as I had in all glossy black but I prefer the little chrome in there. I saw pictures of all glossy black and it makes the car just too subtle for my liking. I do like the whole 'attention' thing to an extent.

Anyway, I took of that gawdy badge. If anyone wants to buy it for free give me a PM. Just pay for the shipping. Haha.

Haha. I probably should however the only really good local detailing shop charges over a $1000! Makes sense for them as they pretty much work on super cars all the time. But doesn't make it very economical to get it done regularly, however I've been trying to find some local options for waxing and detailing and will probably get one done shortly.

1. Buy clay bar and quick detailer
2. Buy some Meguiars show car glaze M07, synthetic sealant M21, and hi-tech carnuba wax M26. Apply in that order. Possibly M09 swirl remover first, but on a white car I don't think you would need to bother.
3. Find a nice sunny day
4. Do it yourself - probably better - and save $1k ($950 after purchase of the above)

You're welcome

Lol well thanks indeed, however you have no idea how terrible I am with DIY stuff. But I guess I wouldn't mind giving it a go it may not be like a shop but it would be better than nothing. Are there any threads floating around with detailed DIY instructions? Like a step by step guide sort of walking you through the process cause I know for a fact that I will get confused if I don't have something I am reading as I do the work. lol Thanks again.

This

If you want durable and a bit easier do a good wash and use the glaze/polish to get the minor haze/scratches out...then put a coat of collonite paste wax
Shyte will last for 6 months

But for the love of all that is good and holy DO SOMETHING!
It's bothering me!!! Lol

Hey everyone starts somewhere, right? The first time I REALLY detailled a car with a clay bar, I was so amazed that it got me hooked on getting pretty good at it. These two sites below (the actual linked threads aren't great, but search through the forums) are a wealth of information, with all sorts of DIY guides. Once you see the results, and how easy it is to learn, you will never pay someone to wash or detail your car again. Good luck and have fun.

Your process is perfect
But this guy needs fast and dirty lol
He may be better off with a good wash
GOOD, meaning all tar, etc gone
Then some collonite cleaner wax
This will be easy and can be done in 2 hours or less

Yeah good point. Although I would pretty much insist on claying the car first. You can do that while the car is still wet from washing and save a little time. Good wash with some Dawn added to strip whatever is on there now + clay + cleaner wax is the ticket. Agreed?

I agree, perfect prep
Then a good wash every week or two
Wax every 4 to 6 months
6 if garaged
4 if kept on the street

Once you get your hands into detailing it becomes an addiction and you become super fussy. It's a slippery slope but very rewarding. I've coated the body of my car which continues to intensify the gloss for about 9-12 months requiring only weekly/fortnightly washes to keep it looking clean (2 bucket method of course).

The key is in the prep, spending the time and doing it properly, then after that it is maintenance. In between maintenance try to avoid touching the surface too much as it might cause scratches.

Damn I'm sounding OCD and showing like I have issues.

Hey bro, I did the detail myself only cost me about $300-400 in total. Including wash, clay, polish, paint seal, clean and condition leather and carpet.

It would take a guy with a gun to make me pay $1000 for a detail
I can do a decent one in 4 or 5 hours
That is $200 to $250 per hour after tax, 275 to 350 pre-tax!
I make good money but won't spend it like that
Plus it is excercise lol
That 1000 is 1500 pre-tax
That is 20 hours of my time at my regular job and 8-10 at my side job
Better spending 4-5 doing it myself

The key is to not let it grt too bad
Improper washing causes most paint damage
