Major Update!!

Well guys, today I drove the car to wash it this morning and back to my place. No issues at all during that time and I detailed the car for a couple of hours. Now that I'm about to run some errands, I turned the car on and let it run for a few minutes to warm up the engine and get the fluids going. While still in park, the issue happened again. I turned the car off, then on again, it is fine but now I have the "check engine light" on and it stays solid now . Before I was not getting any check engine lights.

I was about to purchase extended warranty through MB, yes very pricey for only two years, all they would offer for my car due to being bought from auction by the dealer I purchased from, quote was:
2yr Preferred Coverage or 24K miles
$0 deductible for $5,608.00

Now I'm at a dilemma, should I take my chances and take this to the dealer now without warranty, hoping that whatever is wrong is less $$ than the quote for extended warranty or should I buy it now then take the car in next week to get it serviced?

Pull the code. Might be something simple you can fix yourself.

Do not reset the code, just pull it.

Wow... that was exactly what happened to me. I was under warranty at the time, but the dealer claimed no problem all the while I was getting the "ESC Inoperative" randomly and more often until I had a solid CEL to show them so they could pull the code to fix it.

Like others have said, I think you should get the CEL checked out to see what it say first and go from there since you are not under warranty.

This happened to my brother and he had the code pulled P2101 I believe he said which had something to do with the throttle pedal or cable. Can anyone confit this code?

If you try to buy an extended warranty there will be an inspection in order to check for any pre-existing issue. So basically the extended warranty won't cover that problem since it is happening before you buy it.
As others mentioned pull your code it might not be the same as your brother. And start from there.

P2101 Mercedes-Benz - Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Range/Performance

Well, there you go. Also, make sure that is the code your car has.

I'd call the dealer and ask for a quote. Or if you have an indy shop call them.

What I meant to say was that the same thing happened to my brother. When I bought the car, I was still in Afghanistan so I had it delivered to his house. He mentioned to me that the same thing that is happening to me now with the car's ESP happened to him once and he had the code pulled and that's what it was. I'm taking to the dealer today anyway and just get it over with to get it looked at.

^ Yea it will end up being that throttle issue.

Hope it isn't too expensive.

I hope so, just got home from the dealer and after talking to the advisor, I get the feeling it might be more. I explained to him the issues and he started to go down other roads. Now that I have a CEL, they can actually pull a code, hopefully it is the P2101 and nothing else, that maintenance won't be that much out of pocket compared to the other one mentioned here.

a problem like this cannot be internet diagnosed. There's too many possibilities. Typically esp problems dont cause check engine lights. check engine lights only come on when emissions systems are affected. It sounds more like some sort of communication issue with the can system, but that's purely assumption. I hope its only a throttle pedal, that would definitely be the cheapest. let us know how it turns out

I dropped it off at the dealer yesterday afternoon, still no word from the dealer. They had to have a lot of cars in since they were out of loaners to give. Hopefully nothing major but I am looking online for other extended warranties.

Alright, just got a call from the dealer with an update. The CEL turned out to be related to the throttle pedal assembly, $1900 worth of part, not sure if that included labor. The SA mentioned that he was able to roll that under the emissions coverage warranty that runs under the 7 year power train, so $0.00 cost to me. While they are at it, they will also perform the taillight recall as well. Have to say all in all, pretty happy with the outcome and dogged a bullet there. I do need to look into extended warranty through.

Well that's great news. Must be a relief.

Nice to see them finding a way to help you out too. That'd be a pretty expensive repair.

As for the warranty, I think 5.6k$ for 2 years or 20k miles is outrageous. U would need major repairs to make that money back.

Wow! I think you've found yourself a great SA. Keep that SA number handy for sure. I'd give him/her a nice little Starbucks gift card or similar...

The stealership is known as that because generally speaking the work/parts cost the most here. However, here is something to note...

They don't care how they get paid, as long as they get paid. It isn't like they are paying out of pocket for him, Mercedes is. Not only that, but the customer is obviously happier because they don't have to pay a penny. Win win win. Dealer gets paid, dealer gets a happy customer, customer is happy customer.

All in all, the C63 is actually quite low cost maintenance compared to many other high end cars

This is true but rather they make their $$ on other areas than my pocket. Hope this is it for out of the blue issues with the car.

Another major update.
Today the dealer calls me to tell me that the throttle body is not the OEM one. My car had the bigger Porsche throttle bodies in it, by the look of them, at least 10mm more in diameter than OEM. The 1st pic is the OEM TB and you can see the AMG part # at the top and Bosch part # at the bottom. The 2nd is the Porsche TB and Porsche part # at top and Bosch part # at bottom. Since I had a suspicion that this car has had work done due to the full akrapovic exhaust it came with, this now verifies that it has had major work done which would include ECU tune and so forth.

The bad news, since the dealer found this out, it is no longer under warranty and I have to pay out of pocket. Labor so far is $800 for taking apart the housing and so forth. The dealer allowed me to source the part at my own expense. I found it on different places, the cheapest being eBay for $289. All part #s match. The other pics are of the lower portion, since it is already opened, might as well have them clean it out. So all in all I'm guessing I'm going to spend about $1500 or so out of pocket.

My other question now is, I would like to find out what place did this. I'm sure not many places do those types of tunes, looks very well done so places like renntech comes to mind since they do have a package that upgrades the throttle body size. If anyone knows of other places that can help me steer my investigation, I would appreciate it.

This is unfortunate.

Unsure who does TBs other than renntech. Pretty much anyone could do the install though once they had the part

Yes, was not counting on spending this money for this. Only one of the TBs failed, the other one in there is good, same Porsche TB too. I was thinking about replacing both and have a spare one, but either way, if one fails, it would have to be reopened again anyway. The motor inside the TB is what failed and started to give the CEL.

It looks to me like Renntech uses 82mm throttle bodies and Kleemann 80mm. The stock throttle bodies are 70mm from a quick search.
