four new tires at 13k miles
What have I been doing wrong? :-)
My '12 coupe is my DD and now has over 13k miles. I just replaced all four original tires today. This is more than twice the tire life I was expecting. Is the alignment on the newer cars different from the pre-FL cars?

First I think you me half the life. For rears, 13k is VERY healthy. I've never gotten more than 10,200 miles out of rears. Fronts I normally get double that. I would get your alignment checked. I tell my alignment guy to run half of the stock rear toe in spec and that has given me a but more life on the rears. Fronts shouldn't be wearing that fast but it looks like those we're cornered on fairly hard. Any track days?
Edit: ok maybe 13k for rears isn't "very healthy," but I would be stoked to get 13k. For someone other than PSS, this seems like a pretty reasonable life.

Those tires still look good to me...for the amount of miles they have on them. Those Continental Contact5P aren't exactly tread friendly either...I would switch to a higher tread rating or some ultra high-performance all seasons like the Continental DWS.
What surprises me is why you need to replace all four (front and rears)? My stock front Contact5P's lasted me ~50k miles/2.5 years and only the driver's side inner tire was showing the wear thread lines. It may in fact be an alignment issue in the front.

IMO unless you are driving in snow or rain those tires are fine for another couple thousand. On my 135i I will run them down till they look like slicks or until I can see the treads coming out. Should get 10-15k out of the rears that's normal for a high HP rwd car but the fronts should easily do 25k unless you are tracking it.

Hmmm . . . I thought most of us track ours a little bit every day!

Thanks for the post - that's really interesting. You're at 13k miles on the original tires, about the same as I was. Have you driven the 2013 differently than the 2009 that ate tires, or do you think there's something different about the alignment on the newer car?

I drive it the same as my old one. I even did about 70 drag passes in this one. I think my aftermarket wheel and the not having LSD, contributed to the 2009 eating tires like crazy. Just replace the back tires not all four.

whats your avg fuel economy say in the cluster since reset? mines sitting at about 9.8mpg . Alignment specs are the different between coupe and sedan. I'll have to look it up and see if they are different but i dont know why they would be, same exact suspension.

My rears lasted 5k miles, the Conti 5Ps, and my previous tires, the Yokohamas were about the same. I really think it must have something to do with the kind of asphalt they lay here in Canada. More coarse which must chew the tires up a bit more than in the States.
