I love them. Used them on almost every car I've owned. Nokkian has always made the best winter tires. The new Hakka 8 just came out, revised sipe pattern and 50% more studs. I don't find the studs bad on dry pavement even, though they can be a bit loud.

I don't like square myself, I like having larger rears so I have more stud coverage. Would have went 275 if nokkian made them.

I almost placed an order on Tirerack but one final question for Toxic...

I understand you run a shop in Calgary? Are you able to get the Nokian's 8s in 225 all around or 235 all around in 18" for our cars? If so, PM me the price. I rather go local if I can but otherwise will be placing an order on tire rack right away for the Blizzak LM32;s.

Putting wide snow/winter tires on a high powered Benz is a waste of good money. A wide tire will float on top of the snow whereas the more narrow the tire the better dig and also increased load over the tread. Better yet buy a beater, nothing makes me cringe more than a salt covered Benz sitting up against a tree or guardrail, remember all the readers we lost last year.

I am not going wide for sure...most likely 225 all around maybe 235.

225/235 is the actual height of the tires the width is 35/40/45/50/55/60
So the best is the higher width aspect while still keeping within the height for the car.
A 225 40 18 will float over snow whereas a 185 60 18 will plow through, One is 9.25 inches wide and the other is 7.25, just for comparison. The guys running the wide winter tire setups are usually the first in the ditch, how many jeeps do you see in that predicament, Just sayin!

235 is the section width, basically the widest point in mm
40 is the aspect ratio, actually 0.40 or 40%
2 x aspect ratio x sect width + rim diameter = overall height
Aspect ratio = (overall height - rim dia) / (2 x sect width)
Overall ht - rim dia = sidewall ht for both sidewalls or sidewall ht x 2
(Overall ht - rim dia)/2 = 1 sidewall ht
Aspect ratio = sidewall ht / section width
Or sidewall to width ratio
The side wall is 40% of the section width

Height = 2 x 0.40 x (235/25.4")+ 18" = 25.4" (1" = 25.4 mm)
Sidewall = 0.40 x 235/25.4 = 3.7"
2 x 3.7 + 18 = 25.4

As long as pressure and load rating are ok

I drove a Porsche 931 in AK with 165/70/16 snows with studs
It was like a tractor

+1, now comes the dismal time in Canada, rain and cold soon to be followed by snow and cold. Have a good day stay warm and between the guard rails, ha ha on narrow tires.

Okay so I ordered 225/40-R18 for Blizzaks for my AMG and 275/45R-21 for the Range Rover. It's all done now just gotta wait and see how they perform when the time comes I guess.

We have Blizzak WS-70 235/60/17 on our GLK 350 and are very happy with them here in NB. I think you will be pleased.

Initially I wanted to order the Blizzak WS80 cause apparently they are better snow tires than the LM32's which are classified as performance snow tires. But the WS's were out of stock until the end of next month and I didn't think it would have been smart to wait that long. So just went with LM32's. Hopefully they'll do the job.
